Wow, these guys were amazing and super proffesional. Came out early in the morning, had my whole front and backyard cut in just a couple hours (it was so bad before). Best part is they were the most affordable service I've dealt with and did by far the best job.

Walt is the best! I've never met someone who works so hard to make your home look beautiful. He truly takes pride in his work and wants your house to look wonderful. He cleaned up after himself every single day. He didn't leave any trash or paint behind. We had a big job. We hired him to paint our entire house. Not only was it done in a timely fashion, it was done perfectly. The walls and ceilings are different from the trim, he expertly cut in the lines. You can't see anything! ! He is kind and considerate of your home and any children or pets you have. His helpers are very nice and considerate as well. We also found that Walt can do other home repairs in addition to painting. We won't call anyone else for any home needs we have. I cannot express how pleased we are with the work Walt did. Hands down the best experience we've ever had with a contractor. Thank you Walt! !!God Bless!!!

Unfortunately, there's only 5 stars to give. I wish there were 10. Mr. Shaun with Pro Tech was very professional, he was punctual ,knowledgeable, and the entire duration while working he made sure the work area was tidy and our home was accessible throughout. The bid was not inflated but reasonable. In addition,he's trustworthy. I stumble upon Thumbtack site, after going through a well know company to do one of my project. I was so displeased with the quality of work. My room was out dated and now it have a modern contemporary look, Im very grateful for finding Pro Tech as my go to company for now on. Thanks

Father and Son enlarged my bathroom and updated the lighting in my home this summer. Stewart Buck was very reasonable and they did beautiful work. I didn't like some of the fixtures I had picked out and they went beyond the call of duty to help me find ones that I liked and installed them with no extra charge. We plan to build a deck and also convert our garage into a playroom next spring and we will be using Father and Son to do this work. We have recommended them to our family and friends.

I am looking forward to amending this review if we can get our renovation finished. The biggest problem started when the 3rd floor addition was not tarped properly and it rained on first floor which is our living and dining room. So, we had to completely clear those rooms out. Which has led to us only being able to live in two rooms of our house. They treated their mess up like another part of the renovation and they STILL have not replaced the floors NOR hooked up the AC to the be other side of the house. My kitchen is literally Hell’s Kitchen. With two small kids, who both finish school this week, I don’t think I have to tell you how hard it is to not have even the part of the house that WAS supposed to be functional throughout the renovation working. See photos. Also, my yard is still a mess. Full of rusty nails and a rusty saw blade and the dumpster that hasn’t been taken away yet. So can’t send the kids outside. Bill didn’t include the windows as part of our estimate - so be aware of that. I find that fascinating. He also is claiming not to “remember” the original plans to demolish the stairs and rebuild them - a $5000 part of the renovation - even after haggling with us about windows - he said “he doesn’t remember” that the stairs were part of the estimate. I would like that off the top of the price. So- I sincerely look forward to amending this review if they can get their stuff together and finish this up. As a counter to the negativity - the upstairs work is beautiful.

I have a home about 100 years old. It had previously been remodeled and the new addition was rotting where it joined the original house. Warren assessed the problem, and was able to take out the rot, maintains the integrity of the beautiful old home. While he was here, he was kind enough to repair some much needed pieces of the old home that were just falling apart from time and add new structures that will assist the home to last for many more years. He is on time as promised, maintains the budget as requested, and cleaned up each day before leaving!

Mr. Saucier and his crew did highly professional work at an attractive price. I called on his firm again when I needed another fencing project completed, and once again, his bids and timeliness of response won the contract.

I hired Rafael to grout natural stone tile on my patio. He was available the very next day. He pays extra attention to detail. He spent attentional amount of time cleaning/wiping due to the natural tiles porous nature. But in the end it looked clean and professional. Very helpful to give advice on sealing tile. He also does carpentry. Next we are hiring him for screening out patio.

Mr. McManus has completed several projects for me and I have always been completely satisfied with the quality of his work and the time in which it was completed. Brian has put a fence in for me, built a well house, and has also modified existing room(s)/structures for me, in addition, he has also completed electrical and plumbing work for me. Personally, I would recommend Brian for absolutely anything you may need, because he will do the best job for the least amount of money. Brian is honest and dependable, although I must say he has a peculiar sense of humor, which made him fun to work with throughout all the processes:) My recommendation....need something done, call Brian!

BLUF: My expectations were met, the job was completed on time and under budget! They under promised and over delivered. The work they performed was top notch. The dialogue prior to starting the job, the concepts, and attention to detail were exceptional. The crew that performed the work; arrived at their appointed time and place as expected. They were hard workers, polite, knowledgable, and excellent ambassadors for Emerald Gardens. James Cannon, the supervisor/designer/sales/procurement manager and any other additional hats he may wear was unflappable, he rolled with every hiccup and he is a man of outstanding character. Great respect for him as a leader and a his positive demeanor throughout the project. The promise after the sale he discussed with me was not window dressing but a honest and earnest promise to ensure customer satisfaction. Despite the relative low cost of this project compared to others they have completed, James made sure I was satisfied and his men were performed work that was equal to or exceeded the Emerald Gardens standard of excellence. All my future needs will be handled by Emerald Gardens and I would recommend them whenever possible.

We were very pleased with all aspects of the services they provided--the estimating and contracting process, the high quality of their work, their total adherence to our budget and time constraints, and the way they left the worksite spotless after each day of work. In addition, they were personable and professional during the work at our house. They did a 4-day sidewalk and driveway repair job for us, but I suspect they are well-equipped to handle a wide range of work at your home or business.

Hoyt did a complete redesign/renovation of our 5 bedroom 2 bathroom home (apron 2700 sq. ft.). Amazing attention to detail and incredibly responsive. Aside from a couple of minor issues (all projects of this scale will have 'em), they far exceeded all of our expectations and would immediately turn to them if we were to have any additional renovation needs. These guys are full service, from creating the design to following through in making it exactly as it was planned. Everyone at this company, from the person answering the phone to the owner care and work hard to make one's renovations go smoothly! We highly recommend Hoyt!!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

      Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
