Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: To me, music is a platform for self expression and self exploration: a means to convey truths people can relate to. The music I enjoy listening to most, no matter the genre or style, is heartfelt and tasteful. This music aims to deliver a sincere message or emotion, rather than striving to be impressive or lucrative. I strive to make music that is deeply meaningful to me, but can also resonate powerfully with others. With my students I teach music as a language. We learn to listen and speak first, and then how to read and write. This method enables students to tap into their creativity right away, without fear of breaking any "rules" of musical grammar. It also nurtures the most essential asset for any musician: the ear. Aside from developing students' aural skills and healthy playing technique, my lessons are focused on the student's goals. These often include learning favorite tunes, improvising solos, songwriting, and preparing for performances. I remind students often that the greatest skill I can pass on to them is not how to accomplish these goals, but how to master the art of practice itself. Ultimately every musician must become their own teacher, with mentors, like myself, to provide guidance and insight along the way.

Singing Lessons

Tristan was very flexible about scheduling the lesson and tailored the singing training to my needs. He was patient during the class and very good at explaining music concepts to a complete novice (me)!

Guitar Lessons

In one lesson, Tristan offered a lot of useful information about playing guitar. He also seemed to really enjoy teaching, which makes for a fun lesson. He knew I was struggling with thumb joint pain and came with strategic stretches and healthy playing technique tips to help me avoid doing further damage. He also offered exercises for memorizing notes on the guitar and introduced me to triad chords for easier playing than the barre chords I was used to. He travelled to my house on a Saturday evening, which fit great with my schedule. I highly recommend Tristan as a guitar teacher!

Tristan is an absolute joy to work with, and I can't recommend him highly enough for his professionalism, attitude, energy, and of course, the music he makes. Professionalism: Tristan is a prompt communicator who listened attentively to our ideas. Not only did he learn the initial music we had in mind, but he also researched similar music at our request and made suggestions that led to an even more beautiful final piece for our wedding ceremony. He collaborated seamlessly with the other musician we hired, and even though they didn't know each other it sounded as if they'd been performing together for years! He communicated clearly and promptly with our DJ, who has since reached out to tell us he would like to work with Tristan again (and we see why!). Attitude and energy: Tristan is an upbeat, gentle and kind young man with a positive approach to problem-solving. We had a few technical concerns and last-minute tech hiccups on the day of our wedding, and Tristan rolled with the punches so that no one could tell. The product (that music!): Tristan's guitar-playing skills are exquisite. His attention to detail shines most in his music; even in a large outdoor space, he played with intricate finger work and dynamics that made his songs float through the space. His playing is emotional, thanks in part to his expertise in choosing pieces that are moving and meaningful, as well as his ability to connect to the music and play with intention. Tristan didn't just play the music for our ceremony - his creative and collaborative spirit enhanced the entire feel of the day and made it even more magic for us. Thank you, Tristan!!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I recently completed my Bachelor's in Guitar Performance at Berklee College of Music, graduating Summa Cum Laude. I began studying the guitar at the age seven under the direction of my father, who graduated from Berklee College of Music. Since then I have had the honor of studying with many of the greatest guitarists in the Boston area, including Richie Hart, John Baboian, John Wilkins, Ken Taft, and Erik Ringstad.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

Music and teaching have run in my family for many years. Both of my grandfathers were guitarists; one of them still teaches in Pittsburgh! My father currently teaches at Berklee, and my mother is a country singer and Berklee graduate as well. All this being said, music was never pushed on me as a profession, it was just something I naturally gravitated towards.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked with customers of all skill levels from ages 5-85. Age is no limiting factor on becoming a musician, as long as there is a love for music and a desire to learn.
