Introduction: Be your own hero. Hero (noun) is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. "You're my hero -- me to everyone, all the time!" I'm so fortunate to spend my time surrounded by amazing humans. I'm in awe of their strength, their courage, and their awesomeness. Even when I'm not with them, I turn on the TV, scroll through Twitter or walk down the street and suddenly, I'm in awe of complete strangers (and animals with social media accounts). Seriously, humans (and Internet quadrupeds) are so cool! We live in a world chock full of heroes -- living beings that inspire us, and that we believe are worthy of our respect and total admiration, but, here's the thing. This constant focus on the heroism of others distracts us from our inner hero -- our strength, our courage, and our awesomeness. I mean, look at that cool thing that guy did! How dare we think we can do that? How dare we admit to ourselves that we are worthy of a hero status? Look at all this proof we've collected to explain why we're not cool/smart/rich/creative enough to do the things we want to do and be the people we want to be. Why should we even bother? We're not as cool as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and we never will be! Wah! Lies. The truth is this: We're all heroes to someone, and we really need to start being heroes to ourselves. Let's all put on our big-girl/-boy pants, tie our capes, and soar.
