I started meeting with Joe once or twice per week at the beginning of my sophomore year of college for help with intro biology. I continued to meet with him this often for all of my biology courses, such as genetics, physiology, and biochemistry, over the next 3.5 years. He is great- he is very nice, reliable, and organized. He can explain difficult concepts, including those directly from primary scientific literature, quite clearly. He is also incredibly smart and knowledgable. He could remember very specific details of concepts I learned years before that were important for classes I took later. I took one particularly challenging course (developmental neurobiology) that he didn't have a background in, but I sent him the syllabus and he quickly learned and mastered all of the material for the semester and taught me. Joe obviously cared a lot about the students he tutored. Not only did my grades improve dramatically (on average by a full letter grade) but also my enthusiasm for science in general was fostered by Joe. I completed my Bachelor's of Science in biology and neuroscience and am now starting my PhD in neurobiology at a top 20 university. I can honestly say that I would not be here without Joe's help. I would very strongly recommend him.
