"Your punches are looking great! Just remember to keep your shoulders relaxed and stay on your toes, not heels," said the voice coming through my headphones. It belonged to Alvin Lewis, owner of Focus Fitness and my Krav Maga trainer. Because his gym is far from my location, Alvin has been training me virtually for a few months and it has been wonderful. He video calls me at the set time. I position my phone on a nearby table so he can see me and I him. We then proceed with the workout...he demonstrates the move and then leads me through the steps. He watches and corrects any mistakes in my form or execution. Sometimes we even do the whole workout together and I'm usually drenched in sweat at the end of a session. You might have seen the Peloton and Mirror ads that show users attending virtual classes. Where Alvin's method differs is that this is one-on-one personal training that offers personalized direction and advice. Whereas the others are group settings where the instructor cannot focus on you, all you might get is a shout-out if any. I highly recommend Focus Fitness for your personal training needs especially if you don't like going to the gym or need some personal direction and guidance. Shoutout to Alvin! He is an incredible professional who will get the best out of you in a enthusiastic and caring way.

I first met Alvin Lewis two years ago through a friend and colleague of mine who has known Alvin for several years through Krav Maga training. Alvin is an amazing human being and his tremendous capacity for kindness and compassion are attributes that make him an ideal fitness professional and personal trainer. The level of patience he displays as a person and as a trainer is extraordinary, and he provides his clients with unconditional support and encouragement that is genuine. Alvin will push you to work the hardest you ever have, because he truly wants you to be the best version of yourself. He knows your capabilities as well as your limits, and he knows just how far to push you when you find yourself ready to quit. Alvin doesn’t give up on people, even when they may give up on themselves, because he sees within you the person you truly want to be, and he is determined to help you get there. His greatest reward is helping you achieve your greatest success and the joy and passion he has for helping people achieve their goals is evident in his smile, his body language, and with everything he does. His ambition and drive is enviable, and just by being around him you feel like anything is possible. He is truly one of a kind and to know him and train with him is an awesome privilege and blessing.

I first met Alvin in April of 2018 at Randolph’s new Intergenerational Community Center. I signed up for his cardio kickboxing class. I didn’t know what to expect as I was not a workout/exercise person. In any case, I always had an interest in boxing/kickboxing, so I decided to check it out. Even though I was basically gasping for air after just the warm up period (because of my lack of being in shape), I stuck it out. Alvin was very encouraging, and his class was fun. I have been working out with Alvin ever since. I followed him to his new place in Brockton where he offers kickboxing, boot camp, self defense, and personal training. I try and get there 3x/week between kickboxing, personal training, and boot camp. Alvin always greets with a smile. He pushes to get the most out of you, but he always preaches to “just do what you can” and encourages you each step of the way. If there is an exercise you are unable to do due to injury or soreness, he will modify. And, as much as I bust on him for having to listen to the same playlist for every one of his classes for the past year plus, it has a good beat and is great to work out to. I have yet to take any of his self defense classes, but I am definitely considering it for down the road. If you are looking for a good, intense, and fun workout, you should  definitely check out Alvin at the Stacy Adams building in Brockton!

So far I've had the pleasure of completing 4 weeks/8 sessions with Alvin. I am down 6 pounds and I already feel a difference endurance wise. Each session lasts an hour long and includes cardio, pilates, weight training and equipment training focused on total body training in accordance to individual goals and ability after careful evaluation by Alvin during the first meeting. Each day the routine and rep sequence changed with an emphasis on quality over quantity. The workouts did not have a bootcamp feel to them, instead the goal was to focus on proper form in order to get the most out of each session. Each session ends with a series of relaxing stretches to finish off each work out.

I do my best to be reasonable and fair to the customer and myself.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Saying hi, getting to know the person and give my quote, which is, "If you have to rest or break for a bit, no problem. Just don't quit on me!"

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I've been playing sports since I was a child. Kickboxing and Krav Maga have been apart of my life for almost seven years now. The gym has been my life. I continue to train in Alpha Krav Maga and Satria Fighting Arts for higher coaching certifications each year. My own training never ends.
