Ricky, who came to do our inspection and cleaning, was on time, incredibly professional, and most importantly honest. He came and inspected, showed and sent us pictures of the interior and exterior of our chimney, and noted that we didn't even need a cleaning. Most contractors would do it and charge you anyways, but Ricky was awesome- giving us his advise on work we'd need in the future and letting us know we were good for this winter.

Put in a request for some landscaping work(weed removal, garden cleanup, mulch, etc) and got a response almost immediately. Anthony is great to work with and takes pride in his work and it definitely shows. He provides an amazing value and makes sure the job is done to your satisfaction. He is always available to contact and is willing to work with you on any jobs, small or large. I am very pleased with the job done and will be using Thunder Landscaping in the future.

The whole team at Jaragua was excellent. We had a very tight schedule to do the interior painting job and the team finished sooner than expected. Martinson was available at all times, and worked to make sure that we were happy with the services. We dropped in a couple of times while they were working and the site was always clean and orderly with all our floors and furniture draped appropriately. They also went ahead and fixed some molding that was coming detached on their own as well as painted window sills, the fireplace mantel, etc., all outside of the contract. An added bonus was the professional cleaning they did post the job. Not often do I find contractors who significantly exceed expectations like Juragua Home Improvement did.

I highly, highly recommend Steve for your concrete needs. I had an issue with my foundation and I didn't know much about it. Steve helped me brainstorm the pros/cons. Provided a WRITTEN quote and invoice in a timely manner (super rare in my experience). Unlike a lot of contractors, was very professional and real. Didn't try to be my best friend on day one and leave a mess until it was convenient for them to come back and clean up. Happy to provide recommendation regarding any structural concrete work.

I have hired a lot of contractors and Douglas is the best I have ever worked with. The quality of his work, his professionalism and his communication are unsurpassed. We had an outdoor job and the weather made this a challenging spring. Douglas kept in touch so I knew he hadn’t forgotten about us! He came when he said he would and completed the job in an outstanding manner. He protected the areas around his work and did an amazing job of clean up. I recommend him without hesitation for any masonry job.

These guys are AWESOME! Highly recommended. I took on a project on behalf of my condo association which meant there were technically 6 people that had opinions and the ability to try to change up our project last minute. Dan Hanna was a true professional and dealt with not only his side of the project but even our condo's side of the project that certainly wasn't his responsibility. To start, I posted a Thumbtack request one morning and within an hour got a call from Dan. He literally came by to see our property that evening (for reference the next quickest response was an email from another company 3 days after posting my ad). Unbelievable how Dan was able to come so quickly to give an estimate. He scoped out the project, which was a partial L-shaped fence and pavement to hide our trash behind as well as moving a bike rack that was cemented into the driveway. He spent all the time I wanted discussing potential solutions and even stood there with a smile on his face while 6 condo owners all tried to change the plans and mess up the project. Everything was possible as far as he was concerned. The quality of his work was clearly important to him. I asked some questions while he was doing the job and he was able to explain to me why the extra steps he was taking would allow our fence to stand up to the test of time. There are plenty of contractors and landscapers out there who are happy to cut a corner without you knowing just to make an extra buck off you. Dan is NOT one of those people. He'd rather make less and have you raving about his work (hence my review) Now that this project is complete our building will be hiring Dan to landscape our common area as well this year and the decision is now a no brainer for us. In the end Dan and Pro Cut & Clean Landscaping gave us a great price on high quality work and did it with a quick turnaround time!

Matt and his guys could not have been better. They got here when committed, were exceptionally polite and very skilled at all they did. They finished ahead of schedule and the work area was cleaner than when they started the siding repair. D.E. Carroll is my new go to place for construction and repair needs.

We had the slate on our front steps replaced. Carlos was great and came to give us a quote, and had availability to do the job. He responded quickly- definitely one of the easiest contractors that I've worked with! The steps came out great, he was punctual and they got the job done quickly. It looks new again. Thank you!

Eddy is simply amazing and one of the best that I've ever seen! He treats each customer as his friend and takes each job very seriously as if it was a job at his own house. I've had the pleasure of working with Eddy on a patio project, and can't wait to hire him again for another mason job. In my humble opinion, his professionalism and work quality is above and beyond many larger contractors could ever live up to. Great experience!

I am so grateful to have found Herandez Landscaping. They did an excellent job. Three workers got the lawn done in a short time (even though it was first cutting of the season and starting to rain). Looking forward to working with them every week this spring and summer.

My husband and I have been home-owners for more than 35 years. This summer, Desire Construction cleaned up our backyard, extended our patio with pavers, and fixed a drain pipe. This was hands-down the best experience with a home contractor that we have ever had. Mr. Guimaraes responded promptly to our request for a quote. We had to wait several weeks while his company completed other jobs, but Mr. Guimaraes contacted us in advance of their start date. He came when he said he would, and his group worked hard and completed the job in a timely manner. We are very pleased with the results and would definitely hire him again.

I hired G&B for a concrete slab project in my old garage. I received quotes from multiple contractors, but went with Bruno (company owner) because he not only had a very reasonable quote but also seemed very knowledgeable in the subject matter. Bruno's guys worked diligently to complete the project and took the time to clean up after themselves at the end of each day. I would highly recommend Bruno and his team for this type of work.

Jon removed my old retaining wall and stairs and built me a new one in about a week. What I like most about Jon is that he built me exactly what I asked for and nothing less. He didn’t pressure me into purchasing higher quality materials or try to increase the scope of work for his benefit as all the other contractors had. He showed up and did the work without me ever being home and charged a reasonable fee. What I hate most about hiring a contractor is the idea of paying a large sum of money to a random guy who showed up to your house promising the world only to never hear from him again. That obviously was not the case with Jon. I honestly don’t think he asked for a dime until a large portion of the job was complete. If you want someone that will show up, do the work at a reasonable price, and always return your call, I recommend Jon.

Edvin and his EAC team were fantastic! The job included a new patio, stairs, a 15 foot stone walls, a 60 foot retaining wall, and a front walkway. They exceeded my expectations every step of the way! EAC is experienced, skilled, reliable, and professional. AND, Edvin was very patient with me during parts of the decision making process. I recommend him to everyone and anyone with a masonry or landscaping job!

He does good quality work, shows up when he says he will and stays on the quoted budget; I wish I could say this about all contractors I've used. He's done two jobs for us so far: repairing/rebuilding a chimney and re-shingling a roof. I've asked him to do another chimney job, at another address, and fully expect another great experience.

We are a General Contractor, JTB Construction, with a commercial project in Taunton. The night before a scheduled "pour" our concrete subcontractor had to cancel due to health issues. We found Steven through Thumbtack and he responded immediately, and the pour was done "on schedule". His promptness saved the project's schedule. The quality of his work was exceptional. We would highly recommend him and plan to continue to use his services.

We recently used Construfort for our walkway, wall and front stairs. This was one of the best experiences using a contractor that I have had. The detail they put into our project was some of the best work I have seen. Their professionalism was outstanding, they communicated with us throughout the entire process. The entire project was completed under budget and in the time they had estimated for us, making very little disruptions to our daily life. We were so pleased with their work that we have already hired them for our next project.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
