These guys were awesome!!! We purchased a piano for our church and have a function this Friday evening. The original movers never showed up on Tuesday after they made us wait several hours before telling us they needed to reschedule to Wednesday (yesterday) and when they finally arrived yesterday after being 2 hours late, they tried to move our piano up 7 stairs and damaged our wall and the piano. Granted, it's an older piano, it was still damaged. They could not get the piano up the stairs and gave up after all that waiting and stress. I contacted Omar at All Pro Piano Movers late last night and he assured me he would be up early this morning to get the piano in for us. I could not believe how fast he responded and what an amazing job these guys did and . Truly our hero's! Not only did he show up and do an awesome job on such short notice, he also repaired the piano that the other movers damaged and he never charged us extra for any of this. I highly recommend All Pro! Thank you Omar and Crew!

Best moving experience ever! Geoff and his pro movers arrived on time, worked fast but carefully. I moved from Andover to Quincy and they got the job done in about 2 hours even though I had a lot and I mean a lot of boxes and heavy items. They were professional, respectful and nice and I couldn't of asked for more. I highly recommend them to any and everyone.

All points Movers were on time, efficient, neat, and well organized. Their pricing was competitive with other local movers. They even moved a piano and took the time to have an expert on hand to tune the piano after it was moved. Bravo! I would hire them again.

Mike was able to come over on Labor Day after a last minute request. He and his partner moved my elliptical and treadmill. They were extremely fast and knowledgable. They were also friendly and on time and I'd definitely recommend them and I'd definitely hire them again.

I realized last minute that I really needed to admit to myself that i needed a lot more help than I had wanted to believe for my move. I got ahold of Ben, he and his employee were at my house in just about an hour. They helped load the uhaul and unloaded it all at my new place. Great service at last minute notice!!

Excellent experience. Had an old appliance the previous owner left behind. Posted this AM on Thumbtack, Luis got back to me (as others) within an hour or so. Not only was he VERY reasonably priced, he offered to come out today (East Hartford to Enfield)! He just left (totally within his estimated arrival time). Loaded 'fridge on the back of his truck within minutes and headed out without any fuss. He says he is available for other jobs. I'll keep him in mind as with settle in.

Ryan arrived 30 min early called and asked if it was ok to start earlier. He was very mild speaking and polite. He used a lot of moving pads on the floors and stairs. He walked the route he would take to move the piano and make sure it was free of objects that might get in his way. After moving the piano he returned everything to its proper location. I highly recommend Ryan for your moving needs. Thank You for setting up the estimates from other piano movers. That is how I got Ryan's estimate.

The guys did a great job - they were quick, professional, polite, and punctual. I hired MVM at the last minute. They were very easy to work with, and reasonably priced. I needed the guys to move a bunch of boxes and some furniture into a small moving trailer. I needed them to really pack the truck well, but I ended up having to re-pack some of it, after they finished, in order to make the load more stable. I think it was tough to get my point across because I was in a hurry to get everything together and done, and down the stairs to my moving trailer. I do not speak Spanish well. The guys spoke English pretty well, but I had a tough time explaining the more complex parts of what I wanted. That may just be me being picky because the moving trailer was going to be towed 1000 miles, and it really had to be packed properly - heavy stuff on bottom, at front, and stabilized with tie-downs. I could have addressed this better if I'd spent more time explaining it clearly, or asked them to call their translator. Everything else I asked of them, they understood and did perfectly, and knew what to do and how to move my stuff with minimal damage. They did a really great job, got everything into the trailer (and I was worried it wouldn't all fit) on a very hot day with record-high temperatures. I would definitely hire them again, and would recommend MVM, without reservations.

This last minute move could not have gone any smoother. I found Mike and his associates to be pleasant, respectful and exceedingly professional. A complex move with an unforgiving schedule turned out to be "no problem" for Mike.

Phoenix Movers were wonderful. They were pleasant and professional. Our move was last minute and unorganized, but they did a great job adjusting to it. I've used a few other moving companies over the years and none were as friendly/family-like. We used them twice in the last few weeks and they were always on time and ready to work. Their prices are very reasonable and worth the work they do. I highly recommend Phoenix for all your moving needs!

moved my parents from worcester to holden this week. We had a great experience with this company. I managed my parent’s move from start to finish and was pleased to have a responsive and caring Move Coordinator to work with at jtr. Every aspect of the move was like clockwork. From the day our movers arrived to pack us up in worcester to the next day delivering and unpacking us in holden, they brought great energy, attitude and efficiency to the entire process. In short; rock stars. Many thanks to Logan for making this transition go so very well and the smiles and focus of the team they assigned to us. Great Job!

We were told that 2 guys were going to be moving us from our 2-bedroom apartment to house, but 3 showed up. This was especially nice considering movers charge by the hour. They showed up on time, worked efficiently, and made sure that any fragile items were handled with care. Being both professional and laid back, I would definitely use these guys for any future moves!

About a month ago I started researching moving companies to try and get things all set in advance of our move. I called many companies as to do my homework. Erin instantly made me feel less stressed about our move with her great personality and professionalism. Fast forward to when the movers came (one being the co owner) They were on time, and shocked me with the quickness of their work but at the same time you can see they were paying attention not to get a mark on anything. Ron helped the guys with the move as well as gave the guys direction on loading the truck. I was extremely please with the entire process and will recommend them to anyone I know who is moving.

I totally HATE moving. Having done self-moves in the past. It was ENORMOUS relief to hire movers for my most recent move. They are prompt, hardworking, professional, and their prices are reasonable. Most of all, no damage to anything. Hopefully, I don't move again but if I do I know who to call. I highly recommend them.

I recently acquired moving services with 2bros Movers for my move from Maryland to Delaware. I felt it necessary to express my gratitude for their services - 2bros Movers comes rain or shine. The storms here on the east coast have been terrible to say the least but it was absolutely more important than one could imagine to get my items moved. The movers arrives and immediately covered my floors to prevent dirt and mud from getting everywhere. This was at no additional cost to me which was very impressive. They reserved my move somewhat last minute and after learning of my situation came to move me in the worst of weather. The moving crew was extremely dedicated and moved with speed and grace. They wrapped my items to a T and ensured nothing was damaged despite the rain. The cost of the move was relatively the same as the projected cost with the exception of an extra 45 minutes and a few items were shrink wrapped. This company is in the top 3 of companies I have ever worked with and without a doubt the best moving company out there. They arrive on time and work hard - without erroneous charges. I highly recommend this company. Thank you for your time. Justin

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
