Working with Eli Moyal was a pleasure. I was pleased with his professionalism and knowledge. The quote was reasonable for a double-wide door replacement and removal. It came in when Eli said it would. He came the next day to install it. When he discovered upon opening the undamaged box that one of the three panels was the wrong panel and damaged to boot, he got on the phone for a replacement. He was back a few days later to trade out the damaged panel. When he got caught in traffic, Eli called to let me know. I was fully satisfied with the whole process and would recommend his services.

Jamie was extremely responsive to my request. He restored my faith in tree services after having been put off for a month by two other companies (not a priority). I would highly recommend Wards Tree for professional removal of trees or limbs.

They did a capital job! I was late calling them for leaf removal so there was an issue with snow but they came back over several days and got the job done. And even though the job was bigger than either of us expected they stuck to their original estimate. I recommend them most highly.

I️ cannot say enough about Chris and his work. The tree that was supposed to be removed fell on the street and on my truck during the wind storm . I️ called him to see if he could move us up and he immediately did. He came over and even cut the tree limps on the street. He then came within a couple of days and took down the entire tree. Chris was a life saver. Especially since we had no power. He was very professional, prompt and did a fantastic job. I️ highly recommend him and will use him.

Everything went seamlessly from beginning to end with Integrated Vegetation Services. If you want good, quality, work done then Matt & Co. are the guys for you. They did such a wonderful job removing trees from our property and we were so impressed! We contacted Matt to get a quote on the removal of 5 trees and he responded very quickly and agreed to meet us at our property. His quote beat other quotes by several hundred dollars and he also offered to clean up and trim other trees on our property at no additional cost. We were really wowed by this, as not many people would have done that. Matt informed us that he took down one additional tree because it was dead (again, at no additional cost to us!). He really knows how to run a business and deliver quality customer service. Matt is professional, personable, reasonable and great at what he does. We would use Integrated Vegetation Services again in a heart beat! Don’t go to anyone else for your tree removal needs! These guys will get the job done!

These guys did an excellent job. I had tree that was dangerously leaning and being supported by serveral others. They got the crane into the back yard without any damage to my property and removed all the trees and debris as quoted. They also cleaned up some old debris from some previous tree work and my yard looks great. My neighbor also was happy as they helped remove a falling limb for them for free. Would absolutely recommend again.

Mike came to trim the over grown focal tree in our front yard. He showed up when he said he would, did the job for the price quoted, and did, what I would say, was an exemplary job. Far and above what I was expecting. I'd recommended him without any reservation! Oh, and he was a super nice guy!

Seth and his crew did an outstanding job! They worked 2 full days on my property, showing up early and working hard throughout each day. Seth made safety a top priority. He also made sure that everything was cleaned up, and that I was fully satisfied when he was done. The price was very reasonable as well. I highly recommend Maple Leaf Tree Service.

We just bought an old home (1889) in Marlborough, and the previous owner had sorely neglected the tree trimming which encouraged wood rot to the siding. We found Maple Leaf on Thumbtack, and we couldn't be more pleased with Seth's professionalism, responsiveness, value, and performance! Seth and his crew man, David, managed to trim our trees to benefit our house while preserving as much nature as possible! We are very pleased with the results, and we highly recommend Maple Leaf!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
