Kristin is wonderful with dogs and truly understands how to motivate them and communicate with them. She also offers great training both written and by example for us humans too!! We also used Kristin as an overnight pet sitter for our 2 dogs and 2 cats while we took a family vacation for 9 days!! It was a relief to have someone here with them who kept to their daily routine and treated them like her own. She kept us updated with pictures and videos!! Highly recommend her services and we are absolutely going to hire her again!!

Jon's service was Excellent. He picked up Chloe, kept her overnight and returned her the next morning. I could tell right away from Chloe's demeanor that she'd been treated like a queen. I'd highly recommend Jon's service to any pet owner. He is kind and thoughtful and treated our pet in a similar manner.

I have been working for lucky dogs daycare for about a year and a half. My experience with lucky dogs has been a great one. We are still a growing business and are building up our facility to be the best it can be. We are a full service daycare facility, but we also do boarding, training, grooming and we have our new retail shop with all sorts of goodies for your pups. I love being able to bring my dog Buffy in for a groom. She's older so she doesn't care for daycare, but she loves coming to Lucky Dogs for a good pampering by Jane. All of our groomers are great at what they do and our experts in their field. They have been grooming for many many years. The best part about working for lucky dogs would have to be the dogs. We have a really good group of dogs that come pretty much everyday. At lucky dogs your dog isn't just another name on a list, every staff member has their own favorites lol. And throughout the day each dog gets some one on one attention with their favorite staff member and vice versa. We take the time to get to know each dog and their behaviors, and try to cater to each dogs individual needs. So we can ultimately have a safer group of dogs to play with each day. We also have a really good group of staff members, some of them have been here for a couple years and a few have been here a little less. We really don't have a high turn around rate for staff like with most daycares. So our staff and especially the dogs are like family here.

I have never met anyone who cared as much about my pets as I do until I met Nancy Dame. It is such a good feeling knowing your pets are being so well cared for while you are away. She is loving and caring for your pets and very, very trustworthy. She has always done an amazing job for me and I have used her services for many years. You are lucky if you can get her.

Amazing! Seacoast Horse & Pet is a home away from home for our dog! We feel so comfortable with Lisa and are so grateful to have her. We don't have to worry if we go away on vacation. Rudy has the best time when he visits the farm, he is so exhausted when he comes home!

I would highly recommend Deborah for pet sitting services. You can tell she loves her job and her furry clients. Deborah took such great care of my dog Dixie and my friends dog Murphy while we vacationed for a week. I don't think they wanted to come home. They were quite tuckered out upon their return. Thanks Deborah for treating our dogs like they were your own!

So far, we've been really impressed with Muddy Paws! This has been a delightful e per once from the onset. Jena responded to our initial inquiry within a couple hours of posting. It was a Friday, and we were somewhat desperate to set up dog walking services for Monday. Jena was so accommodating! She organized for one of the managers in our area, a primary dog walker, and a secondary/backup dog walker to do a meet and greet on Saturday afternoon with the intention of commencing services the following Monday. All 3 of them came to our house on Saturday afternoon to meet our newly adopted puppy and review her routine, our wishes for how everything would come together, etc. So far, we're a week into it and couldn't be happier! Our walker is great with our pup, and consistently shares detailed notes after each walk - sometimes pictures, too! She's even kind enough to bring in packages/mail for us - above and beyond! We can tell our puppy enjoys her time with her, and the quick relief breaks twice a day have been great for helping us with house training her since we both work in the city.

Bridlewood is the only boarding place we have entrusted with our beloved canine family members. The services, care and facilities are unsurpassed. Dale Cuddy and her staff are genuinely caring, compassionate and most knowledgeable and talented (great grooming!). It’s evident that our dogs enjoy their time at Bridlewood – happy to see us upon our return, but always excited and eager to leave home for another stay at Camp Bridlewood!

Kendra watched our kitties for 2 weeks. She became their best new friend. She truly was great, she was with them daily, sending updates. She also watered plants inside and out, took in mail. I highly recommend her for pet and house sitting. She's professional and very reasonable for her services.

Loyal Canines is an outstanding place for a number of dog related services. I have been going to Loyal Canines since June of 2013. My dog Brady went through the 3 week boot camp program and we saw vast improvements. Before the program, Brady was an anxious, fearful dog that did not listen to our commands. He also did not like to play with other dogs due to this confidence issue. After the program, Brady became confident, obedient and enjoyed the company of other dogs. Most importantly, Jermaine and the Loyal Canines team taught me the skills to understand Brady's behavior and be able to work with him by myself, proactively in the future. We still bring Brady to Loyal Canines for daycare and boarding. I give it my highest recommendation.

Sarah of Comfy Critters has been taking care of my dog, cat and rabbit for awhile and I completely trust her abilities! She provides daily walks for my dog, and gives them loving care multiple times a day when I am away. My pets always seem happy and relaxed, and they are always happy to see her! She also takes in my mail when I travel and makes it look like someone is home. My pets love her, and it makes me comfortable knowing they are in her care when I am away.

Carla is absolutely fantastic - she is one of the very few people that we can trust with our Corgi and be 100% certain that he will be properly taken care of. I swear she treats her pet guests just like they are her own, with lots of love, caring and understanding (Carla definitely "speaks dog"). We have actually scheduled vacations around Carla's schedule - that's how great she is!

I have used HoundHikes for individual dog walking/care, as well as for the groups that go to the state park. HoundHikes is by far the best dog care/dog-walking service provider I have ever used. When Al came to our home for a “meet and greet”, he came very prepared with treats for my dog and asked all the “right” questions for someone taking care of a pet and even put all the emergency contacts that I provided him with in his cell phone for easy access if ever needed. Being a working individual whose schedule tends to change a bit week to week and has a few late nights each week, flexibility is key. HoundHikes has not only accommodated ALL days/times that I need, but has been SO patient with letting me schedule a week or two at a time as my work schedule changes. He also constantly offers to drop in again later in the day or evening if I ever get stuck at work, etc. HoundHikes has gone ABOVE AND BEYOND in meeting my needs. For example: a) one day after playing in the park, my dog was still pretty wet (even after being bowl dried) and so Al kept her with him in the car longer so that she could dry off some more. b) Al texts me updates each day after he has dropped my dog at home and many days he also sends me pics and videos of her while they are out. c) one time when he arrived to pick up my dog, she had been sick on the floor in a few places, and beyond making sure she was okay, updating me, etc., he cleaned it all up! My dog LOVES Al and he takes her out rain or shine, day or night. He always checks her food and water when he brings her home to make sure that she is all set!

We have two large puppy/dogs. Joe took the first one for 6 weeks and she came back as a perfect little lady. The younger puppy was being a pain in the butt and starting to affect the newly polished training of the older dog. Joe drove an hour to our home and did a training session in our neighborhood to help make sure that they both stayed on the right path. That is pride in the product you create. We will be sending our youngest puppy to his board and train as well in another month! Worth it.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does boarding a horse cost?

Finding the right horse boarding location is a big step in a horse owner’s life. This will be the place your horse will live and where you will visit multiple times per week or even daily. The cost of horse boarding will depend on the level of service you desire, the location of the stables, and the luxury level of the property. Here are some examples of average horse boarding costs:

  • Overnight stabling: $30 per horse per night.
  • Partial boarding (owner feeds and mucks): $220 per horse per month, with a three-month commitment.
    • Administration of oral medication: $10 per dose.
    • Bandaging: $20 per event, plus cost of materials.
    • Trailering to vet if owner is unable: $25, plus $25 per hour to wait with horse.
  • Basic full boarding: $325-$350 per month per horse. Includes twice daily hay and daily stall cleaning.
    • Horse training: $20 per session.
    • Pasture turn out: $20 per session.
    • Blanketing: $1 per day/$30 per month.
    • Vet or farrier hold: $20. This means haltering the horse and standing with it as it receives treatment or shoeing.

Where can I board my horse?

You can board your horse at any barn or stable that provides horse boarding services. To find horse boarding near you, read reviews of area locations and speak with equestrian friends to find one with a solid reputation. Ideally, the location will be within a reasonable drive from your home or office. This is especially important if you are paying for partial boarding services and are responsible for feeding your horse and cleaning its stall each day. You may choose your boarding barn or stables based on the services they provide. Some offer more extensive amenities — at an added price — that reduce the amount of work you need to do to keep your horse comfortable. Consider whether you want training, blanketing, exercise and other perks in addition to standard offerings like hay and stable mucking. Your stable may have temperament requirements and proof that your horse has the proper vaccinations required by your state. This protects both your horse and the other horses in the stable. Many states require that locations offering horse boarding services have stable licenses that are renewed each year. Always be sure to enter into a clearly written boarding contract that will cover your horse and belongings in case of accident, and remember our tips for smart hiring.

What is horse boarding?

Horse boarding is like rental housing for your horse. Horse boarding is helpful for people who don’t have the space or the resources to install and maintain a stable on their property. A horse can be housed in a barn with other horses and receive the care they need. Owners can visit their horse for riding, grooming, training, etc. Horse boarding services may vary based on the company and the price. Some horse boarders may offer short-term boarding of 24 hours to several nights for people passing through an area, while most offer boarding by the month for horses whose owners live in the area. There is partial- and full-service boarding, which indicates how much of the work of feeding the horse and cleaning the stall is the responsibility of the owner rather than the boarding barn. For an added fee, horse boarding can also include grooming services, riding and training, medication administration, and more.

To find the right boarding fit for you and your horse, make a list of your top priorities. These might include immediate access to riding trails, round-the-clock supervision, or a nearby or affiliated veterinarian. Always visit the site to learn exactly where your horse will be kept and whether the barn and grounds are in good condition. Read reviews, and always practice smart hiring. It’s also critical to sign the proper legal documents that protect both you and your horse, such as boarding agreements. Above all, make sure it seems like a place your horse will be comfortable between your visits.
