What do you love about your job?
What do i love about my job? I am doing what I have done best since I was a kid. I fix old houses and make them beautiful and get problems solved. I make my own hours, and I get to meet all kinds of people from all walks of life. I tried the corporate 9-to-5 and sitting in an office all day wearing a suit and tie, and I found that it is just not for me.
Who inspired you to start your own business?
I got started playing "handyman" when I was about 20 years old. I was attending Santa Monica College in California, and my class schedule was so all over the place it would be next to impossible to find a part-time job. I ran a simple three-line ad in the Santa Monica Journal, which came out once a week. Soon, that ad was getting so many calls that I could not keep up, and I had to stop running it. I built up a "route" of regular customers who loved what I could do for them. I could fix anything and get it done right for less.
Plumbing problems? No problem! I have repaired or installed more pipes, faucets, toilets, water heaters, boilers, water filters, ice makers, and sprinklers than I can count.
Electrical? I started my electrical apprenticeship when I wired my first house before I reached puberty. Electrical repairs, installation, and troubleshooting are child's play for me. Live wires do not scare me. For over the past 35 years, I went on to turn a part time "hobby" into a full-time business. From coast to coast and all over Greater Boston, I have completed everything from small job service calls to complete renovations. I have been serving numerous property owners and real estate professionals and solving all their home repair and improvement needs. All my business was strictly from word of mouth, as I proudly earned a reputation for integrity, honesty, and having the skills and tools to get the job done right for less.
Today, I am the "small job" specialist. I take on the "service calls" that the big shots are too busy to bother with. I am seeking to build a relationship with a few select landlords who can appreciate having that one "go-to" guy they know they can call anytime something calls for attention.
