I booked the project with OSA just one week before I moved in my new condo. There are plenty of jobs needed to be done, like install all appliances, replace old vanity, replace all old valves, replace new toilet, install new lights, put floor tile and wall tile in my bathroom, and so on. Thankfully, OSA finished all projects before the day I moved in with high work quality, I really appreciate it. Also, they are very trustful, I gave my home key to them so they can come any time to do the work. I would definitely recommend OSA to all my friends who needs to do electricity, plumb job for their house or condo.

First impression is that you should meet Darcio Correa in person. He is a gentleman craftsman who is attentive to every need the homeowner desires and, as we learned, he takes an enormous amount of pride in delivering superior service. He plastered a kitchen wall for us where tile had been removed. The wall was not in good shape. When we returned home, the wall was 'paint ready' and no signs of what had been when we left that morning. He is an 'artist'. Darcio arrives on time, quotes a fair price, and is well experienced in a number of home handyman trades. Above & Beyond service.

Marc was friendly and knowledgeable. He was on time, responsive and reliable. Marc assembled our new Ikea wall storage unit and did a great job. I'd hire him again to work on other "handyman" type projects around our home.

John did an excellent job laying the new tile in our basement/playroom. Worked every day til the job was completed. The tile came out excellent, nice clean straight layout, nice crisp grout lines, and cleaned the basement after completion. I washed the baseboards a second time, as I re-stained all the baseboard trim, plus the doors and window trim. All the floor edging looks amazing. Blends right up to the baseboards perfectly. I will have John back for more in the future.

Donald is a man of his word. When he says he will be there at a certain time, he is their not a minute late. Donald and his crew do a remarkable job. I have an older home that needed all the walls redone. Donald and his crew made the walls and ceilings look like new. The walls are so smooth they feel like ice. Donald should be the first an last person you go to for your plastering needs.

I hired Joseph Speranza for both interior and exterior work. To replace gutter and siding, repair entry door canopy that had fallen off due to the bad wnter. To replace entry and storm door and fix wall all damaged due to the winter, as well are replace outer window sill. They did a great job. It all came out very nice and I couldn't be more pleased. There did all the repairs within the time framed they had promised and cleaned up nicely when they were done. I would definitely hire them again!!

Cliff built a deck for us. He was creative and extended a walkway ramp to the pool. It more than we expected. He was prompt and kept us updated as things progressed. We had a strict timeline and Cliff was awesome in completing it early. Superb job and cleanup as well. I would definately hire Ciff again and recommend him to friends.

This is the first time I hired a carpenter for breaking two closets and making a opening between kitchen and living room (it is a baring wall) He is easy to communicate. Came, check and gave quote. from next day they started work and finished within 2 days. Before left they cleaned everything properly and also put some salt on my stairs. My wife and I was amazed. Thanks I got them. I am planning to do some other carpentry works.

Fechou Plastering is an exceptional organization to work with. It's owner Frank was timely in not only his response to the service call, but to the intricacies of the work needed. He even went above and beyond by providing a quote after scoping out the work needed, and then showed up in a timely manner to see it through to completion. What we loved most is that upon seeing an area which needed to be addressed to complete the agreed upon work at hand; Frank didn't overlook it, but instead provided what could be done to ensure the overall project would be a success. For example, after opening a wall, it was discovered that beam was lacking, thus creating a floating wall - without much holding it up. In turn, Frank suggested reinforcement with beams to secure it and then placement of the slanted wall ceiling. The results? Smooth and now beautifully sound. Our organization was so impressed with Frank's attention to detail that we hired his company to return the following week for the addition of crown molding. The work done is absolutely stunning. It was quite a task given how time consuming creating each piece can be. However, seeing his team polish off the artwork was truly an amazing transformation. Being the professional that he is, Frank completed the final touches earlier today by sanding down various places of the office as promised. Within the next week we will again secure the services of Fechou Plastering to begin work on other areas of our building. Needless to say we have found a contractor for life. Frank is genuinely kind, meticulous to detail and professional as well. We wholeheartedly would recommend his organization, Fechou Plastering, to anyone in needed of ceiling, wall, office repairs and ornamental plastering such as crown molding.

My husband and I purchased a new-to-us home this past November and the to-do wish list is a mile long. Our first big-ish project was having stairs built to an already existing deck. Xavier was wonderful to work with, he was very responsive to any questions, was on the job daily, and the stairs far exceeded my expectations. We look forward to working with Xcc Pro-Builders for our future projects.

Our bathroom was long overdue for re-painting. As you can see in the "before" picture, we had a lot of peeling paint that needed to be removed before we got to anything else. Erik was able to complete the job in two days, and our bathroom looks phenomenal! The first day, he scraped the loose paint from the ceiling and walls, primed and sealed everything, and then applied 3 coats of plaster to bring it back to a smooth surface. The next day he primed and painted the ceiling, walls, and door, and cleaned up any plaster residue. I'd highly recommend him for any painting!

So glad we went with Expert Cleaning! Luis was in contact contact at all times with updates on the project and asking for our input. They started on time, they finished on time and left the place in pristine condition. My home looks beautiful! It was built in the 70's, the walls were not in good condition, but I had a vision of how I wanted it to look. Exceeded my expectations. Looks brand new. And the price he quoted was the price we paid, not a penny more. Luis promised that when we hired him, he said we won't pay more than the quote and the job won't be done until we're completely satisfied! One more thing, is price was very competitive. I am so grateful for Luis and glad we picked Expert Cleaning. I would recommend them to anyone.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
