The online tutoring works really well. At first I was hesitent, but my daughter took to it immediately. We had a traditional math tutor for her in middle school who would visit twice a week. Online is much more convenient. Professor Holton is a fabulous instructor. We couldn't be more pleased

The job was tutoring university statistics very late in the game (4 weeks prior to exam, if that). The tutor, Ken, was outstanding, giving as much time as was needed (a lot of time was needed) and beyond that bolstering spirits and showing belief in the student - which was invaluable. The student passed the course, which at no time seemed certain. Quantum Prep was upfront about the possibility of not passing, which was appreciated, and actually gave more incentive to go "full steam ahead" with intensive hours to achieve the goal. The Quantum Prep team was responsive to issues which cropped up, such as problems with the online textbook, and scheduling snafus as well. They gave periodic updates which were enormously appreciated. They will be my first call for all tutoring in the future.

Some tutors are very knowledgeable. Some have a lot of experience. Heather is a rare combination of off-the-charts smarts, tons of experience, highly credentialed AND super warm, personable, patient and intuitive. She's been a great source of help and support for my son over the past couple of months as he prepared to take the SSAT. They worked hard and they had a lot of laughs together. He took a diagnostic test in September. After preparing with Heather he sat for the real SSAT in November and his score doubled. (I am not exaggerating.) If you hire her you will be more than satisfied.

We hired Micheline after my daughter took her initial SAT and ACT test as we felt she could do better with the input of an expert. After two months of consistent tutoring, my daughter again took the tests and her scores improved dramatically. She liked Micheline, and we were happy with her professionalism. Micheline is also very patient. When my son needed help with Spanish, we called Micheline. My son enjoyed & looked forward to his lessons, learned to love Spanish, and made a lot of progress. We would highly recommend her!

Dr James is a great teacher! He is very passionate about what he does and is extremely knowledgeable. He was my undergraduate astrophysics professor and I assist him with stellar evolution research. I highly recommend him for teaching/tutoring as he keeps your attention, makes complex subjects awesome to learn, teaches neat French phrases and what not to say because it actually means something else, and is quick to respond to questions.

    About

This is one of the first things customers see about your business. I love to help students in there subjects! I tutor all areas.

    About

I have worked with children in an educational setting for a few years now, and have always found enjoyment in discovering how individual children learn. No child thinks the same, and my love for teaching is derived from using each student's unique way of thinking to help them grasp standardized concepts taught in their school's curriculum. My goal is never just to bring up a student's grade. I strive to make my students feel confident in their ability to learn and tackle problems or subjects that may initially seem intimidating. I do this while engaging the student by making learning fun and as relevant to them as possible.

    About

I'm not a business. However, I'm trying to state a business in tutoring children. For any job I've gotten, that's what I did. I tutor children and help them improve so much in their education. As they got older, they'd come to me if they are in need of any tutoring. They recommend me to people and/or after school services that need people like me who works with kids in improving their skills in not only reading and writing, but also in math.

    About

To whom it may concern. My name is Daniel Scott. I applied for this job, because my strength is in math, and I like to help others. I am very diverse in every environment, and it is not hard looking for new employers.

    About

I do math tutoring for K-12. I am offering math tutoring for students who need help with homework or topics learned at school. I am a graduate of BC and I have tutored several students in a variety of math subjects including algebra, algebra II, geometry, precalculus and calculus.

    About

Certified elementary special education teacher grades K-5 I am a special education teacher, certified in Orton-Gillingham by the Massachusetts General Hospital. I ran the Language Based Program in Weymouth for 19 years. I specialize in teaching a phonics based approach to Reading, Writing and Spelling. Individual tutoring is ideally suited to remediate the student's specific weaknesses. Phonics instruction helps the student with reading fluency and comprehension. Tutoring gives the student the confidence they need to be successful in school by boosting their self esteem and helping them to take risks necessary to learn. I try to foster an appreciation for reading by using reading material that matches each student's interests.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

    • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
    • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
    • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
    • National average cost for a math home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
    • National average cost for reading and writing home tutor: $40-$60 per hour.
    • National average cost for an SAT home tutor: $70 per hour.
    • National average cost for an ACT home tutor: $70-$100 per hour.
