Eric went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with his service, the price was also very convenient and he was very accommodating with our household needs. He was also very thorough after the installation and made sure everything was done correctly. He also found other pipe leaks and gave us his opinion on them. We will have him come back next week and we will definitely keep him and are happy with his work and service!

In a months time, I used this company three times and was satisfied each time. They were very good at responding, punctual, and professional. The prices were reasonable and the work was done in an efficient and high quality manner. I highly recommend this company and will use them again and call on them first for any household work. It seems they have a wide range of experience with simple jobs to more complex jobs as well. You will not be disappointed.

Dave was professional, friendly, and more than willing to do what needed to be done to get a slightly abnormal job done. We are very pleased with his work and recommend him to anyone with general household work to be done.

I was very happy with the work done by John. I have a two car garage that was stuffed with all kinds of household items from large to small: mattresses, a china cabinet, old rugs, pieces of lumber, camping gear, chairs, bed frames, magazines, an old toilet... He cleaned it all out with his helper and it looks great now! Getting the estimate went smoothly. He responded to my Thumbtack project very quickly. I made an appointment for him to come out to my house to size it up in person. A picture doesn't really give a good idea of size because it makes everything look smaller. Then he gave me his estimate, I got a couple of other estimates, and I made an appointment for the clean out with John in a couple of days. I would definitely do business with him again.

Wally responded promptly, showed up on time (early even!), completed exactly what he proposed to do in a timely and professional manner and for a very reasonable cost. He gave us several cost saving suggestions and advice in the process. He also tackled a few unexpected issues without 'batting an eye'. The DIY alternative would likely have been much more costly in the end! I look forward to hiring him again for several other household projects. Highly recommended!

Lessa’s Cleaning did the most amazing job cleaning my home for me! I’m a first time momma and simply was exhausted trying to keep up with the household chores and new baby. I received a referral from my best friend to use this business. Swehany was very fast in setting up a consult and initial appointment. Prices can’t be beat! My home has next looked so clean, even from when I first moved in! The ladies are the sweetest and I felt very comfortable with them in my home. Will use and recommend again and again!!! Top notch service!

Steve does excellent work. I recommend him 100% He tiled our basement bathroom floor, finished the walls, made his own wood trim to edge the wall where it met the tub tiles, painted the walls and wood work, moved the washer and dryer himself, worked outside cutting the tile, even though it was cold, and put everything back. He was efficient, clean, organized, punctual and very reasonable, providing a detailed bill of time, labor, and parts. No surprises. He was very independent and made no demands on us, even turning down coffee! We left him alone in the house, a couple of times, feeling complete trust in him. The job was unexpectedly difficult; the concrete was uneven, there was an unknown pipe jutting out into the floor. He was thorough, he found and filled in a leak around the tub; he was ingenious, he modified tile around the pipe and made a perfect round hole for the toilet for the plumbers, and he patched holes in the walls. In addition, he was very considerate, picked up the tile himself, (after a wrong order was delivered) later volunteered to pick up the vanity, and ran through the steps the plumber was going to take to complete the bathroom renovation, with a new sink and toilet. He came back to do a little something where the floor met the carpet in the hallway, no problem. He wanted us to be perfectly satisfied. All in all it was a personally pleasant and very professional experience working with him. Based on what he did for us, I would trust him to do any kind of household renovation he says he can do. I know he does kitchens, decks, and additions too because he came recommended by a neighbor. We were perfectly satisfied.

F&E has been taking care of our household for over 20 years. The quality of their work totally surpasses any help we have had in the past. They have maintained the highest standards, the staff is charming and positive, they are punctual even in the worst weather conditions! Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

How much do you pay for house cleaning?

Hiring a professional house cleaning service is a helpful way to have a healthy home even when your work and personal schedule is packed. House cleaning prices vary based on how many square feet your home is, how dirty your house gets, and how often the cleaning service comes. Some companies charge a set amount — such as 5 cents — per square foot, with a minimum amount, such as $100. The national average cost for house cleaning ranges between $110 and $150. Prices can be lower in areas with a lower cost of living, higher in big cities or affluent regions. You may save money by increasing the frequency of your house cleaning visits. Often a company will charge you less per cleaning when you schedule more cleanings per month. The cost advantage rewards your loyalty, and also reflects the fact that more frequent cleanings make it easier to maintain a high level of cleanliness in your home. A housecleaning service may charge more for the first visit or for one-time services than for recurring cleanings.

How do you find a good handyman?

Finding a good handyman can change your life. Within days, the endless list of insurmountable tasks that were either out of your skill range or impossible to fit into your busy schedule can be completed. If you know you want help but aren’t sure how to hire the right pro, ask these questions to find the right fit:

  • What is your work experience? If you are putting in a tile backsplash, you want someone experienced with the task, not someone who generally does painting and junk removal.
  • How much do you charge? Handymen often charge hourly rates that vary based on the complexity of the task they’re hired to do, as well as flat rates for standard jobs. Be clear about what they’ll charge before you hire them.
    • On that note, discuss payment details. It’s wise not to pay all the money up front, especially for larger projects. You may be able to pay a deposit for materials and pay the remainder upon project completion.
  • How long will the job take you to complete? If the handyman is as busy as you are and a fence repair is going to take months, you should probably find another qualified handyman for the job.

Read client reviews and follow up with references to make sure you’re choosing the right handyman for your projects. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What does a handyman do?

A handyman is a skilled laborer who provides basic home repairs. Anyone can call themselves a handyman, although most who do so are skilled with repairs and home projects. Reading reviews is a good way to determine their fitness for your job. The tasks a handyman can perform include assembling furniture, painting interiors and exteriors, repairing fences, repairing broken doors or replacing trim, hanging lights, hooking up appliances, and much more. Handymen may have flat fees for certain services, or charge an hourly rate. Handyman rates are often lower than those of a contractor, as they don’t have the same specialization. Some states have no limit on the work a handyman can perform, while others do. For example, California’s Building and Professions Code section 7048 (small operations) permits handymen to provide work similar to that of a contractor (floor installation, painting, etc.) provided the total cost of labor and materials does not exceed $500. A handyman is a great resource for minor home repairs at a lower cost than a licensed contractor, but for more complex projects, it pays to hire a specialized contractor.
