I got a 16-inch moving van and 2 men. We expected to move in 3 hours since it was just down the street but I had a lot of stuff and it took 5 hours, which was much longer than we estimated and so, more expensive. But they sent a third man to help finish up and did not charge me for the extra 10 minutes so I appreciated that. They were very professional, followed instructions, did not damage anything and they had fair rates. I would recommend them.

Excellent experience. Furniture that was moved was well wrapped for protection. Tom and his team arrived on schedule, worked quickly and professionally. Highly recommend for smaller moves, truck rental on our own would have been about the same price.

Frontier Moving is the only moving company I will use after my experience with them last week. They are extremely professional, quick and careful during the move. The estimated time was exactly the amount of time it took for the move to be complete. 10/10 recommend them to anyone who is looking for honest, reliable movers.

They were responsive to my change in requirements. Price was fair. They were a bit late - they were delayed getting their truck, but we still completed the work quickly and efficiently.

I had a great experience with Aable Moving, who we hired to move a spinet piano. First, John was very responsive -- providing me with a quote very quickly and promptly answering/returning my calls. He and his crew showed up exactly in the window they estimated and moved our spinet piano efficiently and with no damage to our home or the piano. John is also very personable and great to work with. I highly recommend this moving company!

Very happy with this moving crew! They were very nice and accommodating. They worked quickly and even stopped at the storage place for us, as well as our new home. A lot of money, but they worked fast and got the job done! Highly recommended!

The movers at AmerApex Moving could not have done a better job moving our belongings over 2,000 miles away. The crew was on time, polite, very careful, and kept the move fun and in good spirits. Nothing was damaged and the price did not budge a penny. Thank you again for making my move across country stress free. I will be recommending AmerApex Moving to all my friends and family!

It is not just a moving company, they would do everything for your relocation needs, assemble your furniture, remove junk, pack everything for you, etc. I had much better experience with them than any other movers.

WR moving helped with my 1bedroom apartment move into a POD. Pros: 1. They were very courteous and pleasant to work with 2. They very responsive to direction and re-arrangement requests to make maximum use of space (I don’t think they had loaded a POD before). 3. They worked hard and consistently - no dawdling or trying to run out the clock 4. They didn’t try to nickel and dime me or charge extra for helping to remove the base stand from my TV or my floor to ceiling shelves from each other and the wall 5. We had negotiated a flat fee for up to three hours and they left it to my discretion to top off since the job took three and a half Cons: will need close supervision 1. I wish they had been a bit more careful with my stuff (especially the assistant) - While I was upstairs with one, the other stacked my shelves on top of each other downstairs on its narrowest side, such that the wind pushed over and threw one on top of the stack down, breaking it - I found a dent in my expensive stainless steel bin the next morning from when they didn’t move it out of the way when carrying my couch - They tried to brute force my 55in flat screen Sony TV into its box when it wasn’t properly aligned with the cutouts in the foam seats inside - I had to tell them to take the TV out and turn it around - and they were squeezing the TV’s screen during the process to the point that I’m worried about if it will be damaged when I open it up and turn it on - They didn’t wrap my couch or the arm chair properly, even though I provided wrap. The chair literally looked like it had a belt on it not a wrap 2. For some reason, they didn’t show up with any doilies or moving carts, even though they had my list of items before hand, including 40 boxes. I don’t know what we would have done if my building hadn’t had a couple of hotel carts we could use. All said, I would recommend them because they did listen and adjust when I stepped in and gave directions. But supervise closely.

I had to move out of my apartment before my new one was ready. I was upset that I would have to put my things in storage in the meantime. I was worried about Era Moving putting my things in the storage container for me. I've seen disastrous ways people pack those things so that you can't get in to get anything out. I was worried for nothing. They packed everything all the way to the ceiling, making sure it all fit in one container. They even left a nice sized pathway so I could get in and out to my things easily until it was time to move.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
