Eduardo Hopp - the owner of H-Movers - was very professional and accommodating. He gave me the best deal from all other moving companies, and helped me on a very short notice (one week only). Eduardo and his associate Henry, show up on time, work fast, yet they are very careful -- none of my personal belongings (flat screen TV, computers, expensive wine glasses) were damaged or broken. I will definitely recommend H-Movers to all of my acquaintances, and use them again when I move next time!

these guys were awesome, NO ONE complained about how much stuff I have. They did all the disassembly and reassembly. I would recommend them highly. I have had several different moving companies and there was always a problem. Moving is stressful and they were great!!

I have to admite I was a bit skeptical based on a couple of the pervious reviews but in all honesty I couldnt have had a better experience with these guys. I've used 4 different moving companies in the past two years and these guys were by far the nicest, most professional and AFFORDABLE of them all. John was a pleasure to deal with and communicated with me every step of the way, even when my sofa wouldn't fit up the stairs in my new place they did a fantastic job hoisting it up to the 4th floor! Yikes. Everything was professionally wrapped in heavy duty furniture blankets and not a single item was damaged. They arrived well within the quoted time frame and finished within the estimated time. I think it's worth mentioning John is a really nice guy, he's very professional and easy to deal with, just speaking with him on the phone prior to my move put me at ease. I wouldnt hesitate to use his company again, In fact I recommend it!

There was a minor hiccup on scheduling, but Spartan sorted it out, and the movers did a great job. The only improvement I'd suggest is that the movers should bring and use floor runners to protect the floors, as the moving companies I dealt with in the past did.

These guys are awesome and I found them randomly online one afternoon. They are honest, on time, hard working, focused, very responsive (via text and call), and they take the time to be personable with you during the job. I will highly recommend them (and already have) to my friends in the Boston area. Side note: The key factor that won me over was that they worked with me and my pricing expectations. Most moving companies/moving help wouldn't listen to my needs, and The Service Man (Jon) did. I look forward to hiring them again in the near future for various projects around the home, given that they do more than just move.

I hired Top Concierge for a move that I did on June 2, 2017, and I was very happy with their service. I had originally planned on a May 27th move, but due to a last minute work schedule change, I had to re-schedule my move to June 2nd, which they happily re-scheduled for me. On the day of the move, the two gentlemen that came were prompt, friendly, and took great care with my belongings. I would HIGHLY recommend this company for moving services.

I rarely write reviews but having had issues with Roto Rooter and multiple other companies, this experience was very refreshing. Paul was quick and very knowledgable, and helped with multiple things not trying to sell me on more expensive solutions. Would recommend him to anyone. Hope this helps.

I had a great experience with Aable Moving, who we hired to move a spinet piano. First, John was very responsive -- providing me with a quote very quickly and promptly answering/returning my calls. He and his crew showed up exactly in the window they estimated and moved our spinet piano efficiently and with no damage to our home or the piano. John is also very personable and great to work with. I highly recommend this moving company!

I used this moving company 4 times in a period of 6 months so, that, alone, is a pretty strong recommendation. I moved out of 4,000 sq foot house into a rental home and then moved into a new home I purchased. That's a lot of moving a ton of stuff around. I had the same three-man team each time. The nicest, hardest-working guys you will ever meet. On-time, Efficient, careful and industrious! Great problem-solvers when it came to getting big things through doors that were small. I hope not to move again for a long, long time, but I would hire them again in an instant!

Bobby Ambrosino and his crew supported our move from start to finish with care and attention to our needs. And Murray’s Moving did this while providing the lowest quote by, in some cases, HALF the cost! Thank you, Bobby, for sending wonderful packers and unloaded and thank you, Arthur, for taking such great care of our belongings on that long haul from Boston!!! Susan Conley Tampa, FL

Nothing was damaged and the price did not budge a penny. Thank you again for making my move across country stress free. I will be recommending AmerApex Moving to all my friends and family!

WR moving helped with my 1bedroom apartment move into a POD. Pros: 1. They were very courteous and pleasant to work with 2. They very responsive to direction and re-arrangement requests to make maximum use of space (I don’t think they had loaded a POD before). 3. They worked hard and consistently - no dawdling or trying to run out the clock 4. They didn’t try to nickel and dime me or charge extra for helping to remove the base stand from my TV or my floor to ceiling shelves from each other and the wall 5. We had negotiated a flat fee for up to three hours and they left it to my discretion to top off since the job took three and a half Cons: will need close supervision 1. I wish they had been a bit more careful with my stuff (especially the assistant) - While I was upstairs with one, the other stacked my shelves on top of each other downstairs on its narrowest side, such that the wind pushed over and threw one on top of the stack down, breaking it - I found a dent in my expensive stainless steel bin the next morning from when they didn’t move it out of the way when carrying my couch - They tried to brute force my 55in flat screen Sony TV into its box when it wasn’t properly aligned with the cutouts in the foam seats inside - I had to tell them to take the TV out and turn it around - and they were squeezing the TV’s screen during the process to the point that I’m worried about if it will be damaged when I open it up and turn it on - They didn’t wrap my couch or the arm chair properly, even though I provided wrap. The chair literally looked like it had a belt on it not a wrap 2. For some reason, they didn’t show up with any doilies or moving carts, even though they had my list of items before hand, including 40 boxes. I don’t know what we would have done if my building hadn’t had a couple of hotel carts we could use. All said, I would recommend them because they did listen and adjust when I stepped in and gave directions. But supervise closely.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
