Jorge and his team did an amazing job of our house (Drywall Installation, hallway and bathroom install marble tile and kitchen cabinet etc). They are incredible, meticulous, punctual, very nice to work with and do a wonderful job. They clean up at the end of every day you would never know they were there. I HIGHLY recommend their work. Jorge's team is by far the best. He is also extremely reasonable. Additionally, he insisted we call if we find ANYTHING we are unhappy with so he can take care of it immediately. So I wouldn’t hesitate to call him again.

John is very accommodation and made everything look good under a budget while meeting and exceeding my expectations! The job wasn't easy, he had to repair mistakes made by previous contractors. New sub floors and flooring, trim, cabinets, drywall and repairs, plumbing of the toilet and sinks and vanities. It's a very old apt and nothing is square or even but he made it look fresh and new!

Tommy was great, professional, on time, and knew his work. Originally I went with a different contractor to finish my basement and after 3 days, he hadn't done much of anything. I got a hold of Tommy, and he was able to squeeze me in right away and finished the job in less than a week of me calling him! He did the taping of the drywall and the corners. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out! He always wants to make his customers happy and I'll definitely be hiring him again for future projects!

Heather was super quick responding to my post and letting me know that her company could meet a variety of our needs. Her husband, Jim arrived EARLY (a rarity these days). He was knowledgable, thorough, and well spoken. The quotes he gave us for power washing, landscaping, & lawn care were reasonable and after viewing the results thus far, we are MORE THAN PLEASED with both his work ethic and the results we've seen. The exterior of the house looks phenomenal! It's hard to believe that he was able to accomplish this goal in such a short period of time. You can certainly tell that he knows what he's doing. The over grown landscaping was attend to with care and precision as was the lawn. We are looking forward to having Jim complete more protects for us (painting, hardwood restoration, installation of baseboard trim to name a few ) and having Heather perform a "deep cleaning" of the house which I'm sure will leave it sparkling! Hiring this Precision Home Care was one of the best decisions we've made.

We hired Steve to install rough plumbing, a tub, shower door, and drywall and to skim coat 2 textured ceilings to make them smooth. We really appreciated Steve's transparency in his quote, as well as his quality and speed of work. Steve gave us a fair and detailed quote including expected time to finish. Steve and the guys he brought with him worked quickly without compromising quality. We are happy to be hiring Steve to do more work at our house later in the summer.

I had quite the punch list to ready a rental property to be shown. Not only did Marty meet me immediately to review the scope of work, he had a quote turned around within 24 hours. Marty and his team worked in an organized fashion, around existing tenants, to make quick work replacing molding, repairing electrical fixtures, and installing pre-hung doors. Mary and his son come highly recommended, and we will be using them again.

I have only positive statements about all aspects of Dan's work for us. He was prompt in communicating. He arrived on time. One part of the project (replacing ceiling tiles) became more complicated after he removed the old ones. His work was meticulous and my ceiling looks beautiful. He replaced sections of drywall and the taping looks great. In addition, he's a really nice guy. I plan on using him for future projects.

St Paul's Indian Orthodox Church used Anthony Berrios for two jobs. First job started as a potential toilet installation but turned into installing few shelves, spot light, adjusting a podium etc. The second job was completion of painting. Mr Berrios is very professional and does excellent work. He prides himself on the end result and meticulously works on even minor details. He is prompt and leaves a clean work space. Anthony really helped out in the second job. We had initially selected another contractor to paint the basement of the church. That contractor however left the job undone. I reached out to Anthony who accepted the job and completed the work. We also appreciated that Anthony doesn't consider any job to be too small. Anthony is going to be first contractor we call for our next job.

Project: • Complete Bathroom remodel. Gut to studs, remove a small closet partition. Planned Additional: • Install a hot water heater and configure the natural gas plumbing as required • Install a natural gas dryer and configure the natural gas plumbing as required • Hardwired smoke / CO detectors on every floor Unplanned additional: • Structural assessment and installation of a header to carry the weight of free hanging rafters from previous owners remodel. • Upgrading the houses mainline for the plumbing system from ½ to ¾ pipe. (Hot and cold water) Small on the spot fixes FoC • Stuck door repair – fixed several doors that were binding in the house. • Helped remove the dishwasher for servicing • Helped install / repair 2nd bathroom hardware • Helped unload my truck a few times as I was moving stuff over from my apt. Bill and the crew at Freehold Enterprises are nothing short of phenomenal. They have given me a quite high end bathroom for a bargain price, while making sure all the systems and services are safe and up to code. Insured? – Yes, and he had his Insurance Agent email me over proof of insurance within 30mins of it being requested. Courteous?– without fail throughout the entire job. Ethicial and moral?- without a doubt. He is upfront and bluntly honest. He lives the Holmes on Homes motto of “Make it Right” and “Just like I’d do it in my own house.” Communication? – while I was away on vacation in Singapore, he kept me up to date on the projects progress weekly sending me multiple pictures and kept me apprised of any issues. Cleanliness / Concern for the Non work areas – Bill papered and plastic’ed what seems 3/4s of the house in order to avoid any possible scratches to the hardwood floors or dust getting places where it shouldn't be. Any minor cosmetic damage that occurred during his work he made sure were made good; such as pressure washing the back patio where he was working and touching up the trim paint damage from his tape. The project detailed ripping out the existing ½ bath and bathroom closet for the installation of a shower and full bathroom remodel. There was an additional constraint that we would be out of the country for two weeks and wanted the project done while we were gone. Bill contacted me through Thumbtack and was courteous and detailed in his phone survey of the project. He was punctual in his arrival for the on-site job survey and he impressed me with his knowledge and willingness to work with our requirements and budget. We had our written and itemized estimate in hand 3 days later. After reviewing all collected estimates we chose to go with Bill and Freehold. That evening we met at home depot and decided on a color pallet and hardware styles. During the conversation and listening to Bill describe how he planned to stretch our budget, we decided to go ahead and give Bill full design control. The end product did not let us down. We gave him key and went off on our trip. While we were gone, Bill sent us continuous updates with photos explaining what was going on. He handled and repaired several unplanned for issues in stride and kept us updated on those; the header and house leveling for the unsupported rafters and the need to upgrade the mainline for the plumbing. Along the way he handled several other minor things as they came up; some stuck doors, installation of hardwired smoke detectors and some lights, etc. Due to both the planned and unplanned extras, we ran slightly over on time and budget, and had to move in while Bill was still finishing up. He worked with us to create minimal disturbance to our lives and routines. The finished product was worth the wait. His tile design and choices were gorgeous. The bathroom is beautiful and now out classes the rest of the house. We love it. Then to top it all off, since we had gone slightly over budget he was willing to work with us on the final payment. We highly recommend Bill and Freehold for your next project and plan to continue using him ourselves for additional projects on this and other properties. Feel free to contact me with any questions regarding this review and project: Stormer@frontiernet.net Sincerely, Jason Emans

I bought a 4-family home as a foreclosure and Paul remodeled the entire home from top to bottom, kitchens, bathrooms, refinished floors, vinyl tile in the kitchens and bathrooms, did a mold remediation in the basement and made a laundry room, repaired the siding and painted and lots more. The apartments are beautiful. I would recommend Paul to anyone wanting to get some work done. He takes the time to do a proper job and does not cut corners like other contractors.

I am a very satisfied client! Ben and his crew treated my family and my home with the highest level of professionalism and surpassed all our expectations. They removed 1200 sq ft of popcorn ceilings, not to mention it was 20 feet vaulted cathedral ceilings . They painted it using my custom color palate. I had recessed lighting installed , crown molding , base molding, new closet doors installed, as well wall paneling installed . I already have Ben lined up for a summer project and I already passed his business cards to my family and friends and co workers. If you want professional and efficient work done at a reasonable cost , Ben is the right man for the job!

Edwin installed gutter covers and repaired flashing around my chimney. He also removed piles of unwanted wood that had been stacked in my yard. He communicated well as to the timeline. There was a slight delay due to supplier error and he kept me up to date on what was happening. Prompt, courteous and meticulous with his work. I found him excellent to work with and will be hiring him again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
