I was present at a 4 year old's birthday party where Michael was taking photos of the event. He's a tall, quiet, yet sociable man; which made me curious about how he was going to respond to these young boys and girls. I couldn't imagine him putting on a red nose or anything like that, so how was he going to pull them in to his photos with any kind of meaning? Yes, I love photography! After getting his instruction from the adults, Michael began to wander around the children, taking it all in. A short while later, I noticed him sitting on the ground having a conversation with one of the children. I should mention the little girl was doing most of the talking. I could see on her face she was enthralled with being listened to. Soon more children came over to see why the tall guy was sitting on the ground talking to their friend. He was conversing with all the kids as if he was just part of their little group. He wasn't a silly guy, but I don't think any of the children thought about whether he was a kid, or an adult. He spoke their language, and liked listening. Once that was done, those kids would do anything Michael wanted them to, or not. He quickly learned their nuances and utilized that in his art. His adult-instructed pictures were posed nicely; his off-the-cuff pictures told a story and were phenomenal! That's raw talent, that you just can't teach! I'm still impressed!
