Introduction: I'm a practicing attorney available for SAT tutoring.
Hi! My name is Daryl, and I am a 29-year-old female attorney in the Boston area. I am currently working as a public defender in Cambridge/Somerville/Malden, and I am now offering tutoring to high school students in the area.
I completed a comprehensive SAT tutoring course with an educational company in Newton in December 2014, but decided to tutor privately due to the number of students I would have been required to take on with the tutoring company. I have tutored a variety of SAT students over the past year in preparation for the March/June/October, and now December 2015 tests. I begin by administering a diagnostic test that will help me to assess a particular student's strengths and weaknesses, and then tailor my approach to achieve the highest point increase possible. With homework and weekly 1.5 hour sessions, I have seen an average increase of 100 points per section.
I am looking to share the knowledge that I have about the structure of the test and the substantive material with students to help them reach their potential. During high school, I scored 790 in the math section. I recently retested and also scored well above 700 on both the reading and writing sections. I am well-versed in all sections of the test, and I am familiar with the strategies and "tricks" to approaching specific types of questions and the test as a whole.
Although I am now a bit more specialized in research/writing as an attorney, I was a self-proclaimed "math kid" in high school. I was a member of the math team and completed AP Calculus during my junior year of high school. During my senior year of high school, I took Calculus 2 and Multivariable Calculus at Wesleyan University, a university located minutes away from my high school in Connecticut.
In addition to my academic qualifications, I am a seasoned tutor. Since high school, I have tutored a variety of subjects, both through school programs and as a private tutor. Most recently, I spent a year teaching English as a second language to a young woman from Honduras. I am patient, encouraging, enthusiastic, and kind in my demeanor. I try to make learning new material fun and interactive. I enjoy helping young people feel more confident in their abilities, and I am eager to share my knowledge!
Please contact me if you think I could be a good fit.
