Hired on Thumbtack
I hired Carlos through Thumbtack, and my experience was extremely disappointing. On the first scheduled day of work, Carlos arrived about two hours late. After working for only about an hour, he told me that his grandmother was about to pass away and that he needed to leave immediately. While I was sympathetic, he never returned that day.
The following day, I checked in with Carlos, and he told me everything was fine. By then, he had completed only about 40% of the agreed-upon work. He asked me to pay a 60% deposit, assuring me that he would return to finish the job.
We later scheduled another appointment, and we both confirmed it multiple times. On the morning of the appointment, Carlos said his car had broken down and asked to reschedule.
On the rescheduled day, Carlos never showed up. He stopped responding to my calls and messages and appears to have blocked me on every method of communication. I was left with an unfinished plumbing job after paying a substantial deposit.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend hiring Carlos. He failed to complete the work, repeatedly missed commitments, and ultimately stopped communicating altogether. If you hire him, be very cautious about paying a deposit before the work is completed.
