Brandon was great! I initially had ordered my own parts from Amazon but they never arrived. Brandon picked up the repair parts on the way to my house and the repair was speedy, professional, and correct. Will definitely use again if needed and recommend to any who needs plumbing service.

I felt every effort was made to repair my tankless water system. When repair was not possible he helped me see alternatives. The work was done in a professional and timely manner. We decided to have additional work done due to our satisfaction with the initial call. We will use them again if future needs arise.

My family had a recent HVAC service provided by Logan Mechanical. This was after the first company that our home warranty sent couldn’t do the work. From the moment that Logan Mechanical arrived and reviewed the situation we were given a full detailed review of the work needed. Logan Mechanical went above & beyond what we expected. Tristian was courteous, professional, and knew his the HVAC repair business exceptionally well. We highly recommend this talented company to all of our neighbors and friends.

We have a 118+ year old house with lots of work to be done all the time. Having lived here for 14 years, we have hired many contractors. After our first experience in working with Ordonez Home Improvement, my husband and I were so extremely pleased with the work quality, value, and professionalism that we have at least two additional projects for which we plan to contract with Ordonez Home Improvement in the very near future. The initial work included tiling, plumbing, painting and door rehanging/repair. In some instances, the engagement included correcting the work of prior contractors. We have received very fair bids for additional work and, pending receipt of materials, we look forward to working with Ordonez Home Improvement again.

As I write this review, my husband and I have added additional projects in our house to be completed. We moved into our home a year ago and it needs a lot of cosmetic and appliance upgrades. The work is done professionally and correctly. If you have a concern, Jose will address your concerns and even give you ideas if your stuck on what to do. He knows what he’s talking about and will do all he can to work around your budget. **Be upfront and realistic in regards to the work you need done and he will be more than reasonable with pricing. All the workers are friendly and respectful. They work non-stop, only stopping for a lunch break. While working, some of the workers engaged with my kids and they were really excited. They are very timely and punctual. If they say they will be at your house at 6am, they are waiting in their cars at 5:50a waiting to knock on your door at 6. Overall, I would hire Brandon Contractors again and highly recommend to anyone in need of house repairs/remodeling services. The prices are reasonable and the work completed will not disappoint you!

I first hired Marvin to paint and frame 44 newly installed wooden windows in my historic row home. Because I was so impressed with his professionalism and superb quality of work, I contracted him for additional services including porcelain tile installation, surfacing and reframing a roof deck, and completing the finishes of a previous contractor. If you want to hire a competent company that takes price in their work and delivers high quality services, Baiza Construction Inc. should be your choice.

Ernesto responded to my request for service quickly, arrived on time, fixed the toilet , left the worksite clean, educated me on the root cause of the problem, and what I would need to do in the future to prevent the problem from reoccurring. I would definitely contact him again for any plumbing repairs we may need.

Barry and Barry did a great job cleaning out my main sewer line. The price was fair. They were kind and quick. I could tell that they were knowledgeable about what they were doing. We found the source of my problem, and hopefully the line stays clear so that we wont have the same issues again. I would definitely hire them again if necessary.

After a heavy storm, we had water leaking from our lights in the kitchen and from our electric panel in our basement! I called MJ Home Services and Dale came out the next day to investigate the leaks. He quickly turned around an estimate to fix both issues as I told him I wanted to fix the issues ASAP. Prices were very reasonable and he insisted on finding the cause of the leaks instead of assuming the obvious (the bay window in the kitchen). The "obvious" cause of the leak wasn't actually the problem after his investigation as Dale found that the problem was actually the window on the next level up. It was allowing water in and running down the brick into the kitchen drywall ceiling. I couldn't be happier that we chose MJ home services to complete the repairs and everything was fixed way beyond my expectations. Also, the coordination of service by Melissa was amazing.

Had a great experience using J-Team for a utility sink repair (that fell from the wall and broke the drain pipe). I received a very reasonable preliminary quote through Thumbtack and his subsequent complimentary visit to assess the work matched that price. The work turned out to be a little trickier and longer than anticipated but it gone done very well. I liked it so much I've already asked for quotes for additional things I need done in the house (from bathroom caulking to a kitchen backsplash installation). Jaime is a great guy and I recommend him!

I needed a contractor to refurbish a 15 year old townhouse prior to selling. It was a rental property 45 miles away, so I needed someone to manage and execute the entire job (about $15K worth) mostly unsupervised. Dale did an excellent job, and stayed on the job (more than 2 weeks) until everything was done. It required many skills (patching, painting, flooring, electrical, plumbing, cleaning, staining (deck), landscaping, and hauling.) He literally gave my townhouse a "New Image" inside and out, with great curb appeal. Dale was completely trustworthy, and I highly recommend him for any job you have.

Fantastic job started w wall repair, but we ended up giving the whole kitchen and basement stairway a new, much needed look. They scraped and prepped walls with water damage and made it look brand new. He was also on time which is a tremendous trait these days.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often do you clean a septic tank?

For homeowners with a septic system, it’s important to have a regular septic cleaning schedule. To protect ground and drinking water, the Environmental Protection Agency recommends residential septic cleaning every three years. Many septic system companies state that you can maintain a healthy system with regular septic cleanings every three to five years. In addition to cleaning, a septic tank inspection once a year will uncover problems and can save you thousands in cleanup and repair.

When waste goes into your septic system, it separates into three parts. The solids (sludge) drop to the bottom, wastewater floats in the middle, and a layer of scum rises to the top. Regularly scheduled cleanings prevent the sludge in your septic tank from building up and clogging your tank, leading to an overflow. Pricing for a standard septic cleaning ranges between $200 and $500, with the national average cost at $315. It’s easier, more cost-effective, and better for your home health to keep your septic tank maintained.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

Who pumps septic tanks?

Septic system professionals pump septic tanks. Pros in different states will have different licensing and certification regulations. Make sure the company you hire is licensed and certified, is a legitimate business, and has the appropriate insurance. Damage to your septic system could cost thousands of dollars in cleanup and repair, so it’s best to hire a qualified professional from the start.

Using an industrial-strength vacuum hose connected to a tanker truck, the septic tank company will pump out the contents of your tank. First they break up the scum of the top layer, then mix the sludge (on the bottom) into the wastewater for removal. To get all the sludge and scum from the tank, pros may use a tool called a septage spoon that loosens stubborn waste from the sides of the tank. After the tank is hosed down and empty, it is inspected for any cracks or leaks that could lead to trouble in the future. The waste in the truck is then transported and disposed of at a waste management treatment center, a cesspool or an approved dumping site.

When should you clean a septic system?

Experts agree that you should clean your septic system every three to five years for optimal system health and safe water. You should also have it inspected every year to catch minor issues before they become major. If you think you may be overdue for a septic cleaning, here are signs that you should call a pro immediately.

  • You’re at capacity: If the bottom of the scum layer is within six inches of the bottom of the tank’s outlet or if the top of the sludge layer is within 12 inches of the outlet, your tank needs to be pumped, according to the EPA.
  • It stinks: If you can smell wastewater, call a pro right away to clean your tank, pipes and field.
  • Sewage backup: Raw sewage backing up into the pipes in your home is no fun. The pros can pump out your pipes, clean your tanks and clear any clogs, but it will be a complex and messy job.
  • Pooling water: Water collecting around your tank or drain field can be a sign you need to clean your septic system.
  • Super grass: If the grass above your septic system drain field suddenly gets vibrantly green and lush, the septic tank leak could be leaking sewage and fertilizing your lawn in unwanted ways. Call a pro to inspect it right away.

How much is it to clean a septic tank?

Nobody wants their septic tank to back up. Regular septic cleaning and pumping is important to keep your ground and drinking water protected from harmful bacteria. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends septic system cleaning every three years. The national average cost for a septic tank specialist is $315. Costs for septic cleaning may vary based on where you live, how large your septic tank is, and how long it has been since the last cleaning. If it’s been many years since you’ve had your tank cleaned, the process of breaking up and removing the solids may take longer and could cost more. Typical residential septic tanks range in size from 1,000 to 2,500 gallons. The price range for septic cleaning usually averages $200-$500, with varying by tank size. Repairs or replacement parts will also add to your cost. To keep your septic tank in good health between cleanings, only flush approved items such as toilet paper, and don’t rely on your garbage disposal for composting. Items that don’t break down easily (like lemon rinds or feminine hygiene products) can back up the septic system, leading to clogs and overflow. If you smell the unmistakable odor of sewage or can see sewage bubbling up above your drain field, call for a septic cleaning immediately.
