Overall, I like the work that was done to my yard. I just wanted a simple, clean, and low-maintenance garden as well as some lawn care services. David, the owner, offered great ideas and his prices were very reasonable. His staff showed up on time and worked efficiently and finished the job within a day. I'm very satisfied with the results.

Employees were very responsive to messages. They suggested a time and I said that earlier would be better, and they were able to come before the specified time. They mentioned other services they offer (landscaping, weeding, etc.) and gave cost estimates. They were open to scheduling mowing twice a month, which I prefer for budgeting reasons.

Mr Soto did a wonderful job regradng my garden, laying a stone path and planting ground cover. He was attentive to my wishes while paying attention to my budget. The work was done in one day as promised, and the area cleaned up afterwards. I would hire him again.

We had P&P Landscaping out to cleanup our overgrown yard, flower beds, and bushes. They were quick to respond to our request and were able to get us on the schedule within a couple days of the request. They were timely, polite, and the work they did was exactly as discussed. To ensure they did what we requested, they asked questions instead of plowing through something or ignoring it all-together. Our yard looks great! We will be using P&P Landscaping in the future.

Alonso was great. Came same day to give me a quote which was very reasonable and scheduled for a few days later. Showed up on time and got to work straight away. Removed deep bamboo roots and then laid top soil and mulch. Had to carry everything through my house as no other access to garden and was very careful. Would definitely use him again and highly recommend.

We hired Homeland Lawn Care and Home Services (Kris Baker, owner) for a winter cleanup up of our lawn. Kris responded promplty and was very courteous and professional. The project included trimming all bushes and trees, cleaning and landscaping of all garden beds, applying fresh mulch and removal of all debris. They did a beautiful job and now our garden beds are ready for spring planting. Unfortunately we can't post any photos right now because it snowed the day after the work was completed. I highly recommend Homeland Lawn Care and Home Services.

Jamie & Dan were easy to get in touch with. Jamie offered many great ideas for the design of my front flower beds and I went with one idea of shaping the beds and love it! Also gave me many options/quotes for the big project itself. In the end, I had them rip up all the old shrubs and trees then til, shape, and edge it. Two day job. I then got all the products (garden soil, mulch, plants etc.) and finished it myself (I preferred it this way). They even offered to help plant when I got everything! There was a tiny bit of miscommunication & a day of no-show but doesn't cloud the fact that I'm sooooooo happy that I have my "curb appeal" gardens :) Thanks Jamie & Dan!

Nothing but good things to say about Balco Landscapes! I had just completed two projects with separate big name contractors and the experiences were both horrible. Had I not been on home on several occasions, the work these other contractors did would have been done wrong and not to spec. So I was a bit uneasy when I realized that due to my work schedule, I would not be home for the entirety of the landscaping project with Balco. But, Balco Landscapes showed up every day, on time, and did the work they quoted. The work itself is stunning! The installed 2 flagstone patios over concrete base, a separate stacked stone retaining wall, and landscaped a garden bed horribly overgrown with weeds and planted agreed upon plants. Also planted a dogwood in the very back of the yard. Balco also pulled the necessary permits from Baltimore City (which in itself is no easy task). They quoted 2 weeks to complete the project and they finished in 1 week and 3 days. Harry and his team were nothing but courteous and professional from the moment they showed up in person to discuss design and requirements, through to the project's completion. The morning after the day in which it looked as though everything had been completed, I spoke directly with Harry to make sure they were done so I could finalize payment. Indeed they were... but Harry was already on his way to my house to shore up a joint line in one of the patios that "he wasn't happy with." I didn't ask him to do it... i didn't even recognize what he was talking about... but he came out on his own to take care of it. That is owning your workmanship. And that is respect for the homeowner. This is how working with contractors should always be!! They are already my decided choice for some additional work I'll have done in a few months. If you have landscaping needs, you'll be in good hands with Balco! A+ across the board.

Carlos did a wonderful job repairing multiple sections of our fence. Quality work, reasonable prices, reliability and availability are important to us and he provided that. He offers a variety of landscaping services, which is helpful for us too as we will need other jobs done in the future.

Great experience with Pro Serv. Landscaping. They were efficient and on time, I feel like I really got my $$ worth. My yard was a mess and they really cleaned it up for a great price (other lawn care services have charged me almost double in the past). Will use again in the future!!

My experience with Raul & Lawn Care Pro was excellent. We met and discussed my ideas, he provided information and options on how the garden would look and responded to my feedback. The quality of the work was top notched and the entire job was completed within a week or so. Raul was professional, enthusiastic, and answered all my questions, even the ones that were repetitive. I have recommended him to family and would happily serve as a reference.

Darlene was sent to us as an angel out of heaven. We needed to water our garden for the next several weeks until our irrigation system is installed. None of the Max-sellers or Poorly-staffed-boys in the neighborhood came through for us. We were tearing our hair out! Not only does she water but she has a green thumb and is bringing vim, vigor and vitality...not to mention color....to our garden! Like a leprechaun she brings magic with her handy hose and trowel. Weeds and evil not so dandy lions: you’re on notice! Go, indeed, Darlene Waters!!!!

My garden turned out marvelous, and my expectations were exceeded. I would without a doubt recommend him for any landscape project.

Abel showed up on time and did not begin to charge us until his crew began working. The crew worked hard and the price was $30/hour for each person working. I felt like we were able to understand each other and he knew what I wanted done and even had some suggestions for enhancing the property in the future. We paid the crew to edge out beds around the house and trees, build an azalae garden, mulch, trim bushes and haul away brush. The crew cleaned up well when they left. I would hire them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.
