FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The short answer is: there is no short answer, nor is it possible to give all the details in a small space. I charge according to the job. Is it an ad job for a medical advance or new food item? Is it to be used as the back cover of a national magazine or a local one, or as a sign in a chain of restaurants? All of these factors are part of the equation. Then, how many assistants do I need to make it work, how many days of planning or meeting with the client before we start photography? Will there be set construction, location work, travel, fees paid to parks for access, passports, equipment carnet, stylists, make-up and many other considerations. From these and many more considerations, we determine a cost.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As co-founder of www.theprofessionalphotographyforum.com I am exposed to new ideas and ways of thinking about images - every day. It's one of my favorite things, seeing what's new today.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My college education was in preparation for a law degree, but it didn't excite me like I'd hoped. After college, I worked for a time in the music business and was exposed to the ability to create something magical on stage, purely with lighting. That transferred over into my photographic hobby, and within a few years, I couldn't have done anything else but this. For 30 years now, it's been my livelihood.
