We hired Derek to redo our 15 year old asphalt driveway that had never been done properly in the first place. Over the years we had added on a few areas and replaced or repaired a few areas. While some of those spots had been done well and some hadn't, we were at a point where we needed to really have the whole thing done well. Those who deal with asphalt driveways know that if it isn't done right, you deal with the consequences for many years, but finding someone to do it right can be like playing a game of chance. Fortunately, we found someone to do it right this time! Derek gave us the option of repairing several areas on our long driveway, which would have saved us some money now, but I was ready to bite the bullet and get this hassle over with. He assured us that he was going to take care of us from start to finish, and he was telling us the truth. When he pulled up the old crap that had been laid down by our original builder 15 years ago, we found out they hadn't laid any gravel, just sand...so no wonder we had been having trouble for years! And then Derek showed us that we had a whole area built on clay, which meant every time water got to that area, the asphalt had no support and it collapsed and spider-webbed. When a previous company pulled up and repaired the area, they never bothered to tell us what the issue was, they just plopped down new asphalt and left us with the same issue. Was it lack of knowledge or carelessness or greed? Who knows. What we did know what that Derek brought us outside and showed us exactly what was happening and explained how it could be fixed properly. He let us know what would happen if we spent a little extra money to prep the area properly and what would happen if we chose not to. We wanted it done right, so we gave him the go-ahead and we watched him bring in large gravel to support that area properly. We also watched his staff hand-dig the areas beside the driveway for drainage, and hand-tamp the edges of the driveway for proper runoff. They worked angles and slopes by hand to make sure everything was done exactly as it needed to be. When there were questions about how something that needed to be done, Derek asked us to come out and confirm...he didn't guess and he didn't make random decisions on our behalf. He gave us the options and offered his expertise but didn't pressure us in any direction. At one point we waffled on a decision and ended up changing our mind and he was absolutely fine with it, stating that he understood the concerns and made the change immediately. No muss, no fuss. We ended up recommending him to my brother and I would recommend him to others as well. We would trust him to guide any homeowner to the right decision based on their needs and their budget. Definitely give him a call and allow him to offer you a quote for your asphalt work.

Derek and his team did a great job paving over my old, cracked, concrete driveway with a fresh layer of asphalt. There was previously an area in the carport that would puddle during a hard rain and his team made sure to add in the right amount of slope when the asphalt was laid so that doesn’t happen again. They did a beautiful job making sure the new asphalt was flush with existing adjoining surfaces such as the sidewalk and the road. Very happy with our choice to use Derek and his team for this project!
