To be completely honest, I've never been the athletic type. Prior to joining Washington Sports Club, my attempts at getting in shape usually involved going to the gym, spending some time on the elliptical, lifting a few weights, and calling it a day. My attempts at nutrition usually involved opting for fries and pizza over veggies and fish. However, after being diagnosed with severe scoliosis, I decided that I wanted to actually make a legitimate difference in my health and fitness. I decided it was time to take the next step and work with a trainer. Sam has been my trainer, and I've been working with him three times a week. His workouts are nothing like what I've done in the past. He created a program that matches my goals (slim down and tone up while strengthening my core), and his workouts kick my butt every time! After only three weeks of training, I am able to push myself to levels that I never thought possible. The workouts are varied and diverse so there’s never a dull moment. Sometimes I'm doing traditional curls and squats. Other times, I'm doing exercises that are like the lovechild of Stallone and Schwarzenegger. Not only have I noticed the physical change in my body, but I also feel significantly stronger. More importantly, my confidence level has jumped, and I feel much more comfortable in my body. I'm no longer apprehensive about trying a new exercise, or upping the number of reps on an exercise I've already learned. After the hump of the initial diet change, I also feel like I have more energy on a daily basis. The nutrition guidelines that Sam gave me have really helped inform the decisions I make about what I put in my body, which in turn, has left me no longer feeling like a lazy lump. Sam is absolutely fantastic. He's very approachable and sincerely cares about his clients' progress. He is able to push me to perform at my highest potential. He encourages me to step out of my comfort zone, without feeling intimidated or self-conscious. Most significant is that he has helped me believe in my own ability to improve my health and fitness. The workouts are always difficult, but with Sam’s support, they no longer feel overwhelming or insurmountable. I can easily say with confidence that Sam loves what he does and it shows. His passion for fitness creates a motivating ambiance and just keeps you motivated, in the zone, and ready to handle business from the first minute in, to the last minute out. I would encourage anyone that is genuinely interested in making a difference in their health to work with Sam.
