I hired Ashshanae for a memorial party after I saw some of her work and because she had done some work for local businesses and her church. The fact that she is on active military duty also convinced me she was somebody who would be reliable and punctual. Ashshanae was always available when I contacted her. She also arrived earlier than contracted for in case I needed help with my laptop to project a slideshow and left later than agreed to. My instructions were to videotape guest speeches and to capture the atmosphere in the room through pictures. This she did very well. I got an overall sense of the guests enjoying themselves and the quality of the videos was very good. Ashshanae was very patient with the many requests for group pictures. Overall, I was glad I hired Ashshanae to take pictures and make videos of my husband's memorial party. Anne F.

I called Dr. Helgeson after receiving her initial quote on Thumbtack. She answered all of my questions thoroughly and was always patient with me whenever I asked questions because I wanted to ensure I had the best writer to rewrite my resume. Dr. Helgeson was prompt with my resume and the quality is a huge difference of what I had before. I look forward to applying this resume for my new career and I thank Dr. Helgeson for all of her help!

I had been in contact with a few different writers, but no one was able to offer the same quality that Amenah provided. She was friendly and helpful in every sense. I received my resume in a timely fashion and could not be happier. Thank you!

I recommend Tom as being an excellent resume writer. I was hesitant, at first, to use Thumbtack. I now have a brand new resume and cover letter I like.

I had the opportunity of working with Kevin. I have found his reviews and remarks to be thought provoking. Often as we write, we do not place ourselves in the shoes of the readers. Kevin considers the tone and platform of the writer as well as the reader and makes his recommendations on how the writer can improve their work. I would call him the antibiotic of editing. He works his way through the literature and diagnose those issues and prescribe a remedy to correct the issues. I would highly recommend him. Thanks Dr. Raymond Holmes, GCDF

I had a one on one session with Tom and it was fantastic. At first I thought I was pretty ok with my speech outline before I talked to him. It wasn't until we talked about the structure of my speech that I realized my speech lacked focus. Long story short, we completely restructured my speech together and Tom gave me extremely great insights on how to plan out my speech before I even begin writing it. This is knowledge something that I will take it to the heart and will never forget.

Stacia did a superb job for me, crafting a letter regarding a very delicate situation. I'm a writer - a professional writer, but I knew that my emotions would negatively impact any attempt to communicate to the said party. I hired IHTMFYW. In 24 hours, I had a well-crafted, honest and insightfully-written letter that captured the key elements I wanted to highlight while maintaining a compassionate undertone. I highly recommend this service to anyone who is seeking "just the right words" for situations that need it most.

Yared was a great communicator and just went over and beyond what we asked of him. He genuinely enjoys his work and is more than happy to take his time and make sure things are done right. His attention to detail is very relieving for people who are too busy or careless. He is also a great explainer and teacher in many ways.

      About

I am a creative writer in a day and age where many people have lost the ability to write concisely, with innovation and technicality, with proper grammar that doesn't seem like a abbreviation-filled text message, or a tweet where the character count is more important than the message. I pride myself on being able to express a idea, relay a message with creativity, originality and erudition. I love writing stories, but don't at all mind the monotonous stability and consistency of technical writing; a combination which in itself is unusual, but fortuitous when it comes to almost any job. I find being meticulous and concise helps ensure a clear and coherent conveyance an idea. It is a well known factoid that 'dealing with other people's problems are always easier than dealing with your own', and so the high standards I hold myself to for my own work guarantees, for you, an outcome of superior quality.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

      • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
      • Strong writing skills.
      • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
      • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
      • Expertise in your target area.
      • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

      • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
      • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
      • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
      • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
