"Mimi is fantastic and a true artist. She body painted me when I attended Awesome Con, a gathering where everyone dresses in costume. I explained to her my concept, a human pop art piece in a comic book style with the bright colors, some texture, and the word POW! across my chest. She exceeded my expectations and we had fun with it. She explained how everything worked and how long it would take and the price was a bargain. She is extremely talented and I would highly recommend her! The paint held up for nearly twelve hours. I will be back again soon for more."

Erin was a really nice, talented makeup artist! She did a great job with the dark smokey eyes I wanted, was on time, and communicated quickly when I emailed her. My only suggestion would be to let people know what products you can offer for certain skin types- I have sensitive/acne prone skin (I had asked what she had and got a broad answer of "everything"). I ended up doing my foundation prior to her arrival Bc I did not know if she had one I could use and my skin breaks out at the sight of comogenic formulas! But overall she was great. I would use her again. Thanks Erin!

First let me say, Tenia is beyond a gifted makeup artist. I arrived late to my venue and stressed out. When I entered the room, a hot mess, Tenia was setup, patiently waiting for me. She calmed me down and did her magic; as they say, “My face was beat for the gods”. When I looked in the mirror, I didn’t recognize myself. I cannot thank Tenia enough for making me look and feel like a Queen. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a makeup artist.

I never normally write reviews but I was so impressed. She made all of us feel special and beautiful. Most makeup artist only do makeup one way( which I hate) but Jaydes makeup capibilties and talents were able to stretch from my daughter (13) who's makeup was very beautiful and age appropriate to my Great grandmother(81) who's makeup was light and elegant. But most importantly my husbands jaw was on the floor. Lol.. THANK YOU SOO MUCH.

Mia was amazing! I hired her to do makeup for the bridesmaids in my wedding. I was a bit nervous about booking someone from the internet without meeting her for such an important day - so we arranged an in home trial. She came to me, did my makeup and was awesome. She has a great sense of humor and definitely calmed my fears. On the day of the wedding, she showed up calm and prepared - my bridal party had all different types of skin tones and facial types and she made each one look beautiful. She did lashes on those that wanted them and it made SUCH a huge difference in the pictures. She was a wonderful makeup artist and I would definitely recommend hiring her for your event!!

She gave me a natural look with a soft glow in addition to a bold purple lip color. She was very sweet and she took time to adjust the makeup to my preferences. I will definitely ask her to do my prom makeup. Her prices were very cheap compared to other makeup artists. And the makeup done was outstanding. Extremely pleased.

Judith and Jossi are kind and professional, and it was fun to have my trial hair and makeup done by them. I only had vague ideas of what I wanted for my updo and makeup, but these artists did their magic and I was amazed by the outcome. I trust them completely with my and my bridesmaids' hair and makeup on my wedding day.

I hired Ashley to do my makeup for my Pre-Wedding photo shoot (similar to an engagement shoot but longer and with more outfits) and she did an amazing job! Although our session ended up being shorter than we had expected (due to unforeseen circumstances), Ashley was able to do my makeup perfectly in such a short amount of time! I can't even imagine how much better it would have been if we had the full hour and a half. I usually don't wear makeup on a daily basis, and I was a bit worried about how I would look with a full face of makeup (false lashes and all), but she did a great job of making me still look me. Don't hesitate to hire her if you are in the need of an great makeup artist~

I have contracted with "Makeup By Marlisa" twice! This makeup artist is always timely, professional and has the gift of making sure that my requests actually look right on me. She has a very keen eye for what works for skin types, facial structures and the latest makeup trends. I will always (if she is available) request her services! Her presence is welcoming and non intrusive. . .considering the close proximity makeup artists have while working. The very first time I contracted with "Makeup By Marlisa", she had to calmly talk me off of the "that's too much makeup ledge". (She's very patient) :) Let's just say I never wear makeup, but wanted to look fabulous for an event I was attending! Needless to say it was not too much makeup, and I received compliments all night. So it goes without saying, I wanted her again when I had another big event. She had the same qualities that I witnessed from our first meeting. And, YES I looked awesome! LOL I can't say enough about her. . .she has made me appreciate makeup and her services.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

  • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
  • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
  • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
  • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
  • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
  • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
  • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

  • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
  • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
  • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
  • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
  • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

How much should you tip a wedding makeup artist?

Wedding makeup artists ensure you and your bridal party are looking your best bright and early on your wedding day. Tipping a wedding makeup artist for their hard work is standard practice, and is also greatly appreciated. A tip of 15 percent to 20 percent of the total bill is appropriate. You may consider tipping extra if the makeup artist or someone on their team went above and beyond — for example, squeezing in Aunt Martha at the last second or redoing a flower girl’s hair free of charge after she dunked it in the fountain.

A gratuity is a reflection of a job well done, so if the wedding makeup artist was late, did a shoddy job or didn’t provide all the services you negotiated, you are not required to tip. Talk with your wedding makeup artist prior to the event to ask how they prefer payment and gratuity to be handled. Can you pay by credit card the day of the event and include a tip then? Do you need to pay in cash the day of the event? Find out ahead of time how to manage payment for services so you can be prepared with cash or credit cards as needed. Even better, delegate the task of payment to someone in your bridal party so you can just enjoy your day.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
