The best builder-handyman-perfectionist in the area. Honest, smart, and caring, he really is the best combination possible. We have had Matt do multiple projects for us-assembling a shed, finishing a basement, renovating a bathroom, and even building a treehouse with a raised deck in the sky! Totally excellent work!!!

We wanted a vanity that fit along a 9' 5 1/2" wall in our master bathroom that would match the other custom cabinetry in our house. Harry produced a fine piece of furniture that fit in perfectly. It matches the rest of the cabinetry in our house and looks great. We are very pleased with the finished product he produced.

We had an excellent experience with Jim and his team. We pulled out old pavers to create a beautiful patio and seat wall with built in fireplace and custom lighting. He also matched new railing for the front porch. He was extremely professional, reliable and very creative. I recommend this company highly and intend to use them again for future projects.

I came home from work last night to a sink full of water and food, because my garbage disposal stopped working. When I was looking for someone to fix the problem, Fusion Contracting immediatly contacted me. He asked me questions about what was the problem with the disposal and also asked what I would want to spend if I had to replace it. I did have to replace it and he charged me EXACTLY what he quoted me. Ron was very accomidating, especially because I had to work so he had to call my sister on his way so she could be at my house. I also have a dog who LOVES to "help" and he was amazing with him. He also left the area even cleaner than it was when he started. I now have a permanant handyman that I know I will be using again soon!

My husband and I hired George and his company to paint our farmhouse in 2010. The original farmhouse was built in 1900, the large addition was added in 1999. It was an extensive job consisting of scraping and sanding the existing paint, repair of rotting wood, priming and painting. George showed up on time every day with his crew, ready to work. We hired George and Company the following year to paint the garage/carriage house. It was the same thorough job with the same work ethic. He also painted the old granary shed and play shed on our property. In 2013 he power washed and stained the 5 decks/porches at the farmhouse. George made it a point to bring to our attention items that could be potential problems with the house. He would repair those items for us during the painting process, he also corrected some items on his own. His work crew was polite and they prepped the area prior to painting so there was not a mess. Because this was all outside work, George watched the forecast and would tell me what days they would be working. If it was a rainy week, they would work on the weekend so the job could be completed in a timely manner.

I have had Bill Kennedy and Full House builders doing work for me on 3 separate occasions. I have been very pleased and the reason I have returned time after time. He has really good ideas and can recommend design ideas when needed. He did everything I asked without complaint and he and his crew cleaned up every day before they left. I have recommended this company to several people. I will add a picture at a later time.

Darrell has repaired (including taping) and painted our entire rental house. In addition he has repaired dry wall and rehung a door, caulked bathroom fixtures, and spray painted our basement and rolled the basement floor. Finally, he cleaned up the entire yard, raking, mowing and removing branches. He is thorough, meticulous about cleaning up, and truly a craftsman in approaching his work. Darrell is also a very kind and approachable contractor, and that makes it very easy to work with him.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
