FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an associate degree in building trades from Trinidad State junior College. I have a residential builders license. I take continuing education classes and I have over 40 years experience in the trades.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I never knew that building that tree fort when I was a kid was going to lead me to be a carpenter. My brothers and I, along with some kids from the neighborhood, built a three story tree fort from wood that we found at a friend's house. The wood had nails in it, so we pulled them out and straightened them, then used them to build the fort! Later on when I was 19, and a ski bum out in Colorado, I got a labor job building a warming lodge in Crested Butte. I saw how much fun the carpenters were having pounding nails and working with the wood that I said "that's what I want to do!" I always thought I was going to be a Park Ranger in Glacier National Park!
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Recently we built a delux dog house. It has a porch and is insulated and heated. It also has a light inside. It’s on casters so it can be used in different locations. It took about 20 hours to build. Rosie the dog was chewing up all kinds of things inside so the owner wanted her to be outside. Hence the dog 🐶 house.
