Introduction: HI! I have been dancing nearly my whole life.I have also been teaching as long. It has been the constant throughout all of life's comings and goings. I have taught at Detroit Dance Center under the direction of Carole Morisseau. At DCDC I was the director of the Protege division serving the young children and teens. My teaching repetoire includes ballet(Cecchetti and Vaganova, modern (Dunham, Horton), West African, and jazz. I have always sought out anything relating to dance in the African diaspora with an emphasis on AfroLatino dance. This hunger for the dance that was inspired by the music that I love, led me to research in depth, all the dances of Cuba. The journey I took in my education of these dances encompasses my whole life and positively impacted the way I look at the world. I found that I have a propensity and deep knowledge of how to teach those individuals who say that they cannot dance. I am intrigued when people tell me that they can't dance or they have two left feet. I find that to be the ultimate challenge. Nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing the light in someone's eyes when they are truly dancing from the heart. My specialty is Cuban salsa which I think is the most passionate, conversational, and truly the most fun in all of social dances. There is nothing like going to a party or a club, hearing good music and knowing you just have to go out on the the dance floor because the music moves you. The private class (1:1) moves a person very quickly through the fundamentals of the dance needed for you to truly understand the dance itself. This is very important that you understand in order to be a great partner in dance, you learn the fundamentals first, everything else is just icing on the cake.I don't believe in teaching showy choreography right off, but instead, give you a great foundation so that you can build onto it yourself and be that dancer that everyone seeks out wherever you go. One of the greatest pleasures in life is being a part of group of like minded people. Some people are a bit overwhelmed by group classes, private sessions allows the growth to occur organically. Small group classes offer the opportunity to share experiences and grow together as a group. There is a special camaraderie that occurs when a small group of people are learning together. There is a lot of support, encouragement, and motivation when working toward a common goal. Preparing for one's wedding dance offer the ultimate in expression of love and intimacy. It offers an opportunity for the couple to express their love to all of their family and friends. Couples who decide to make the decision to prepare for their wedding dance often find themselves learning things about each other that they never knew before. Preparing for the entire wedding party's dance often leads to a great opportunity for the group to become familiar with each other and have fun. A great way to start the pre-wedding video outtakes! All in all, professionally speaking, I have to say that teaching dance has been the most rewarding and satisfying to me. I hope this gives you a glimpse of what to expect if I were to work with you. I guarantee that you will leave your time with me not only a better dancer but a friend in dance. BAILA CON MIGO!!! As I previously explained, teaching dance gives me great satisfaction as I see my student achieve unreachable goals, expanding their cultural knowledge, and just flat out have fun. As a teacher, it is my reputation at stake.I take pride in what I do and it gives me great satisfaction when a former student remembers how they felt while they dancing, how their life has been changed by dancing and the impression one makes on someone who is learning the art of dancing. As you obtain skills which will take you away from me, nothing is more satisfying to a teacher as when a student surpasses the teacher. I live for those times. I always say that I want to teach as many people as I can so that I know that I will always have somebody, somewhere who will dance with me! Above all, I enjoy the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. There's always a reason why people enter your life, I love to find out what that can be.

Loved working with Valerie! My husband and I hired her last year (just realizing I forgot to leave her a review), and she choreographed a beautiful dance for us for our wedding. It was a huge hit! My husband isn’t the most coordinated individual when it comes to dancing, but Valerie was so patient with him and thoroughly taught him the steps over and over and made sure he got it! Everyone at our wedding LOVED our dance! Thank you so much Valerie!
