Susan W. says, "Working with Gabe helped me finally achieve my health goals. Weight loss (and keeping it off), improved perimenapause symptoms, increased energy and improved sleep were all the goals we've worked on this year. I was stuck for 3 years, unable to get to my target weight on my own. Gabe gave me the tools and has been my accountability partner. I am so grateful to have finally achieved my target weight and to have maintained this year even through unrelenting stress and the holidays. Since working with Gabe my perimenopause symptoms have been much better managed. Daily lymphatic draining, taking supplements and eating (and avoiding) certain foods have all helped with improved energy and better sleep. Since working with Gabe, I've taken steps to take back my health and keep the progress going. We're still working together because I need to have an accountability partner to stay with the progress I've made. My health and quality of life are greatly improved and that's priceless. If you're considering working with Gabe towards your health goals, I can't recommend him highly enough. Invest in yourself and see how much better you will look and feel."See more

Wendy D. says, "I wanted to be in the Beta Test group because I had been trying to lose weight for nine years, and nothing had worked for me. I had almost lost all hope of ever losing the weight I had gained. I initially gained 20 pounds in three months but had gained another five pounds in addition to that. About a year after I gained the initial 20 pounds, I saw a nutritionist for about three months over my lunch break once a week. She basically did nothing for me. She asked what I was eating and said it appeared I was eating a healthy diet and to continue. I didn’t lose any weight during that time. I tried 18:6 fasting, low carb, over exercised and many other things, but nothing worked, and the scale never moved. I made up my mind when I started the NEW ME program that I was going to do everything suggested and do my homework as my last ditch effort to lose weight. I will admit to having a few doubts that the programs would work since I had tried to many things in the past. I loved how each lesson and module were spelled out and told you exactly what to do. It wasn’t easy and some of the modules were time consuming, but I learned good habits and made the time each week to do the work. I loved having the Facebook group and the weekly calls. Kirstie was always there to answer questions and encourage us. One of the biggest surprises was that I was eating more food, but the weight started coming off! I forced myself to eat three healthy meals daily. I had been starving myself for so long that my body was craving food and my metabolism had pretty much stopped working. I have learned that I am not perfect and to not expect myself to be. I have learned to appreciate my body and what it can do and to stop being mean to myself. I learned that “me” time is very important. I didn’t realize I was stressed until I took the test. I started incorporating de-stressing such as meditating. I realized how therapeutic journaling is on a regular basis to not only get negative thoughts out of my mind but to also write down my positive thoughts. I guess the unexpected curveball would be my stress. I do not handle stress very well, but with the materials Kirstie gave me, I am learning to deal with it better than before. If I knew someone who was going to be working with Kirstie, I would tell them it’s a great program, and if they put their all into it, they will get results. This is not one of those programs that promises instant results. You have to put the work in to get results, but if you do, you will see those results. My word to describe the program is “life-changing”. That’s what this program was to me. Kirstie is amazing! She goes out of her way to make you feel comfortable and makes sure you understand everything in the program. If you have questions, she’s right on it. It was wonderful working with her. I would highly recommend her to anyone trying to lose weight."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.
