"I recorded the EP entitled Homeward with Michael. This was my first attempt at recording an EP. Michael went out of his way to make me feel at home while working on this project. He not only expertly arranged for the maximum sound recorded from such unusual instruments as the mandolin, lap-slide guitar, and concertina but he also made me feel at ease making mistakes with all of those instruments. He maximized my vocal abilities and he made my strengths stand out. The recording process was not easy for me, in fact, it was extremely stressful! Michaels easy going manner and his attention to detail (I think you can do that part better, lets try it again) made my recording as good as I could make it he even provided hand direction for me when I was struggling staying with a click track! Michael mined the many tracks to find the best lap slides that were there to make a terrific recording on Half Way Home. That was not an easy process! To top off his sound engineering, he even provided (he actually played the bass line) great bass on two of my songs. He also gave me the harmony for one line that I couldnt figure out. He gave me every ounce of his energy and Im sure he will provide the same effort with you. He has an excellent ear and he also has the courage to let you know that it is not as good as it can be. He was able to record me only and then layer one instrument on top of another putting the acoustic guitar, mandolin, and concertina on top of one another in the song Eliphaz and then he played/ recorded the bass. On top of that he decided that drums would round off the song even better and offered to get a friend to play them. Since I already had a friend in mind to play them, I used my own guy, but Michael would have provided a drummer if I would have needed. He also had the versatility to record four of us Treebeard Brown members playing at the same time - and still being able to hear when one take was better than another then he was able to accommodate the schedules of two other band members to come in and record their parts. He showed great flexibility in enabling six people with very different schedules (the process took about six weeks) to put out a tremendous recording of City Down the Hill. Michael showed an incredible amount of patience in the mixing process. I believe I spent about three weeks asking for subtle changes in all of my songs, and he brought each part to my satisfaction. Then I asked to completely redo one instrument. I know if I had spent that quantity of time working on something and then to have someone decide to just redo it, I would not have been happy. He was content to just make the best music it could be. When I finished my first take of At the End of the Day, he just smiled and said I love my job! These were some of the things he did to help me in the recording of Homeward and I am sure he will provide the same expertise for you. I dont hesitate to recommend Michael for your next project."
