We have a second office in Ann Arbor; our main office is in Ithaca, NY. I was able to train Kim in the peculiarities of our branch office and let her do the accounting and organizing that was needed. I don’t know what we would do without her!

I had not filed my taxes for several years. When the time came that I absolutely had to catch them up, I contacted several CPA’s and tax preparers, but was unable to find anyone willing to take on such a challenge and assist me with my tax returns. A friend referred me to Krassy, and she was the answer to my prayers. She is highly professional and has a passion for, and dedication to, helping and fighting for her clients. If you have ever found yourself involved with the IRS, you know what a nightmare it can be. Issues with the IRS, include inexperienced “help desk” employees and less than helpful agents. It is basically a one sided battle which is designed to almost guarantee that you will lose. Krassy guided me thru the IRS red tape and procedures. That included her spending many hours on the phone waiting to get in contact with the correct agent, along with trying to chasing down needed phone numbers. The IRS is not very helpful when they have your “feet to the fire”. They are only interested in how much money that they can pile up in penalties, fees, and interest. It appears that their mission is to cause you as much stress as possible so that you will give up your fight and pay whatever they decide you owe them, even if you don’t owe them all the money that they claim. I would never have been able work my way thru the system and get everything straightened out without all of Krassy’s hard work, support, and dedication. Even when faced with roadblocks and setbacks thrown at us, her determination to get these problems resolved was gratifying. I truly feel fortunate to have had her “in my corner” fighting for me. Often during our appointments, I walked out of the office with more hope that this was going to be resolved better than I expected than when I arrived. Krassy, thanks for all your dedication Sincerely Larry Barker

I will never forget all the help I received. I worked with the firm for 3 to 4 years. I was absolutely at my wits end in trying to figure out my QuickBooks accounting /bookkeeping for my marina. We were a very small business and I just couldn't find an affordable accounting firm. I had one bookkeeper come in and in one weeks’ time she had literally deleted a section of my books....and she cost me $1000! After that I was certainly shell shocked. Then I was so lucky to find a firm that did all the fixing each time I was pulling my hair out trying to figure something out. The price was so reasonable and so much cheaper than any other place I had looked for. Although I knew the basic bookkeeping there were many accounts that were extremely complicated. I had made a mess of many items and knew enough to know it was wrong but did not know how to fix. I gave the firm some very hard things to tackle and they always came to the rescue. They even went back 5 years to correct and set a complicated customer security deposit account straight. I could call and get help immediately rectified in several days just by sending over my books on line. Sometimes it was just a talk on the phone and a suggestion on what to do. Then my hair started growing back and all was well.

I myself am a 45+ year tax professional and as a result of personal medical issues I have had to abandon my profession. My wife and I met with Ms. Gaston after being referred by our son and daughter-in-law for many years. We were met with patience and understanding as to our tax needs as well as our concerns regarding turning over our financial affairs to someone after being responsible or our own as well as others. We were impressed not only with her expertise, but the way she made certain we were comfortable & informed during the entire process. We were further impressed at the willingness to accommodate our schedule even to the extent of delivering a draft to the hospital prior to finalizing our return to insure our satisfaction. Continued success to the exceptional service of this company!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire an accountant?

Accountants’ rates vary based on their education, licenses, experience, and the work for which they are being hired. An accountant may charge an hourly rate when a company or individual needs their services on a short-term basis, such as when performing an audit or requesting assistance setting up a financial database or process. Hourly rates can range as widely as $40 per hour to $300 or more per hour, depending on your geographic location and the accountant. Check out the average hourly rate for accounting services in your region.

Accountants may offer a package rate for weekly, monthly or annual services to reward ongoing customers. Many accountants offer online services where small businesses can access online accounting software and payroll assistance, and the accountant — for a monthly or other recurring fee — provides financial analysis and reporting of their numbers. For basic monthly accounting services, an accountant might charge anywhere from $75 to $500 or more, depending on what was included in a given package, the size of the client’s business, and the complexity of work requested. Nationally, full-time staff accountants earn between $40,000 and $80,000, depending on experience and other factors.

    What is an accountant?

Accountants are financial professionals who have received an accounting degree from a four-year university or college. By trade, accountants prepare, maintain and examine the financial statements of an individual, business or institution. An accountant prepares reports for tax purposes and can also perform audits of public companies. Common tasks include creating budgets, analyzing profits and losses of a company, processing payroll, preparing financial statements for company leadership, and creating and maintaining financial database systems for a company.

Accountants do not automatically have a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation unless they have passed the Uniform CPA Examination and received the proper license. Regardless of whether they are CPA certified or not, accountants can assist businesses and individuals with bookkeeping and financial reporting, while CPAs are more knowledgeable in tax codes as a result of the CPA licensing examination and continuing education requirements. CPAs are also eligible to represent clients before the IRS if audit support is required, while a non-CPA accountant is not. Academic background, years in the field and professional reputation all can affect an accountant’s rates.
