From rap, to dance, to rock to mixing music videos, his mixing talent knows no boundaries and DJ Marquis has also recorded accomplished work in each of these genres as well as much work that blurs the boundaries. For those who like neat and tidy definitions, DJ Marquis may be unsettling but not for those who dare! DJ Marquis' electric and innovative blend of sounds has its roots in his disc jockey career. Marquis started as a fan of all types of music. From jazz to house, to hip-hop, to alternative, his record collection has it all and Marquis incorporates all of these styles into his disc jockey sets. Understanding that a disc jockey has the power to never just play music, but to make an atmosphere, he soon started playing across metro Detroit's extensive cabaret/club scene, spinning a mixture of old school, house, hip-hop and currentfavorites. Working with PBS affiliate WTVS, Marquis puts together music for the Emmy award-winning youth program called "Club Connect" and produced soundtracks for a variety of documentaries. And he did not stop there. He started producing a number of events and offering major and indie label touring acts to the Detroit area. More interested in creating good music than being tied to a style, he started production work with a number of dance and rap music artists as well as learning more about the technical end as an engineer. Marquis created a label, Nu Flava/Mixx Flava Records, which demonstrated his ability to produce a number of various musical styles. Detroit's number one dance music radio station, WDRQ 93.1, asked Marquis to bring even more flavor to the already diverse format of the station. Marquis founded the first commercial mix show in Detroit centered on dance music and Latin house titled "The Freestyle Explosion”. The show garnered national attention for Marquis, including an affiliation with the influential (DMA) Dance Music Authority magazine. Now after 6 years, Marquis has been sought out after again from the newest no. 1 hit music station WKQI (Channel) 955 to aid head up what will soon become the hottest mix show team "The Bomb Squad". DJ Marquis remains focused on good music in a selection of styles, using the best of all worlds to deliver to the listeners and patrons a fresh and exciting musical and visual experience.
