Introduction: The Well Mannered Dog Center’s fantastic facility in Greater Grand Rapids, Michigan, offers outstanding dog daycare, boarding, dog classes and events. We offer dog daycare, boarding and classes in Grand Rapids. Dog lovers have a deep desire to talk dog and spend time with others who feel the same way. That is just what The Well-Mannered Dog Center was created to provide. The facility is designed to be used as a base for the many area dog training clubs, breed clubs, 4-H clubs and all citizens who enjoy the company of their canine companions. It’s a place to play, learn, compete, and network with dog-loving kindred spirits. During our daytime hours, we focus on canine daycare and exercising our boarding dogs. Our nights are filled with competitive action. Our indoor areas are large enough to simultaneously handle three separate training classes and a regulation-sized agility course. This translates into plenty of indoor space, so people can ‘drop in’ for a few hours in the evening for play, to practice, attend classes or even join a flyball league. Flyball is a furious relay sport for teams of four and their dogs. The competition is ‘ruff’ and is a great spectator sport as well. Dog Daycare When you are away from home, do you often worry about your canine companion alone waiting for you, and wish there was a dog daycare facility where they could receive some attention and healthy activity? At The Well-Mannered Dog Center of Grand Rapids, our dog daycare staff members are ready to tire out your pet, so you don’t have to. Our staff of canine professionals knows that dogs are social critters who crave interaction with people and other pets. At our dog daycare, canine play groups are matched to size and personality. Seventy-five clean and safe kennels provide feeding space and quiet rest time in between rollicking play periods in our large indoor and outdoor areas under the watchful eyes of our staff. We screen all prospective four-legged clients to ensure that they can get along with other dogs. We insist that dogs be spayed or neutered, current on their vaccinations, and on regular flea and tick maintenance programs. Pets found to be ill or with fleas will be quarantined and held for the day at an additional charge. Classes Beginning obedience dog classes are geared to our clients who want more control and a stronger team work bond with their companion canines. Our goal is to enable our clients to handle their dogs in all situations, indoor and outdoor, with confidence. Obedience dog classes are an excellent beginning step for having a well-mannered dog, and can serve as ground work towards advanced performance AKC and UKC competition dog classes. At The Well Mannered Dog of Grand Rapids, our obedience dog classes refine the control behaviors to a faithful level of execution. Beginning obedience dog classes are offered only in a group setting because we know that a group class will yield the best results, as it provides the distractions of the other clients and their companions. Agility dog class provides a positive approach to agility training. Control and accuracy will be emphasized while introducing you and your dog to AKC and international style obstacles. The well-mannered dog freestyle dog classes combine tricks and basic dog obedience to form a musical routine you and your dog perform together. Big or small, formal obedience skills or not, all dogs can do this! Freestyle is a great exercise and fun for both you and your canine partner. Whether you just want to have fun in your own living room, entertain at a local nursing home or get out and compete, freestyle dog classes are a great way to build a wonderful relationship with your dog with a focus on fun, fun, fun!

Our Team Leader - Kathryn Snyder Kathryn decided to open The Well-Mannered Dog Center as an extension of her passion for dogs and as a second career after being bored in retirement. Having trained, shown and competed with dogs for several decades, Kathryn brought her vision of a center with space for dog day care, grooming, boarding, socialization, training and competition to the Grand Rapids area.
