Tomas, with TC Renovations, came to my rescue two months or so ago after I posted a help needed ad on the Nextdoor app. If I recall correctly, my ad stated: "Crashing gutters, need help" or something to that effect. He came over, was able to restore, replace, repair (all of the above) various gutters and then expressed concern about the lethal icicles hanging down from the roofline. That opened up a whole new conversation as to the poor ventilation and insulation of my 100 year old home, as well as his concern that the massive icicles could be damaging my roof.
Years ago I had received a quote for fixing all of my ventilation and insulation woes, and don't recall how much it was for, except that it was going to cost an arm and a leg, and at that time I had neither to spare. Tomas thoroughly maneuvered his way through the various nooks and crannies of the attic area, measured, took photos, found leaks, damaged rafters and other areas of concern, then later that evening wrote up an extremely detailed email outlining all of the work that needed to be done to make my home a whole lot cozier, not to mention safer. I appreciated the way he broke things down into chunks and provided options, depending on how much I wanted or was able to spend.
He did some of the work on evenings and Saturdays, and the bulk of it while I was at work on two separate Tuesdays. The house was empty but I had nary a fear about leaving it open to him.
I ended up paying for every option he outlined on the list, as it all just made sense and, although I did not request a second opinion, felt his quotes were reasonable. He finished in a reasonable amount of time. His communication (text, email, in person) was excellent. He bulked up the insulation in my home from way below code (R12) to above code (R61) - and wow can I tell the difference! He was able to provide photos of the various repairs and work he did. The attic is now vented and filled with new insulation, the various openings that had been gaping and drafty with old insulation spilling out are now sealed, tidy and neatly framed in with wood. In fact, I commented on one of the attic closures he built, and his response was, in essence: "I care about my work and want things to look good."
I plan to hire Tomas in the future for additional work on this old house. In fact, I take comfort in knowing that I can call on someone like Tomas and trust that he will do a great job at a fair price.
