FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I typically price the job as a whole instead of an hourly price. The reasoning behind this is that it gives myself an incentive to get done instead of dragging feet for an hourly rate. I have seen plenty who do hourly work and two hours become nine. I try to price based on square footage and difficulty of the job. Typical interior jobs go around $2-$3 a square foot depending on difficulty of house. Exteriors I go by difficulty strictly. Decks I normally do $500-$800 for a smaller deck, $800-$1,500 for a medium sized deck and $1,500+ for a large deck. Again, my pricing is heavily influenced by the difficulty, how many gallons of paint it'll take and the condition of the surface. I do request deposits, and these typically would be the rough estimate of material cost and the first day of prep work.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I schedule a time for an estimate, layout my process and schedule, give the estimate and collect a deposit when I begin work. The estimate process is typical, if hired, I'll give a schedule to you on the spot as to when I will be there to perform the work. I usually collect the deposit when I prep the surface. Payments can be made as I go, or as a lump sum at the end.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
funny story... I painted my own house and figured out I enjoyed it and was good at it😆.
