I sit on the Housing Board that manages a college fraternity house at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield Michigan. Our fraternity was founded by Russell E. Lawrence and subsequent house has tremendous historical ties to both the university and to the local Metropolitan Detroit area. We challenged Amanda this past June (2014), to come up with a vision for a complete renovation of this fully functional college fraternity house. What we asked for encompassed a blend of design influences from two areas, one being the Historical Detroit Athletic Club and the other of the clean modern presentation of the newly renovated Shared Services Center at the University of Michigan. The end result had to capture the history of the building but also provide the latest technological conveniences that college student look for. Amanda exceed our expectations from her initial presentation all the way through completion. We placed her in direct communication with all contractors and directed all the renovation to update and upgrade the building. We have been working with Amanda on drawing house plans - and customizing our kitchen-dining-living space. She has great ideas. She is creative, open-minded, modern, and precise - just like a designer on HGTV. Her drawings are amazing, and show you exactly what you are getting. What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a member of the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA). This organization has different continuing education programs and conference opportunities. They have a newsletter every month that informs you about the latest design trends.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
When I was a little girl I loved playing Barbies. My sister didn't like playing with me because all I wanted to do was set up the Barbie house, not play with the dolls. I always had an interest in art and learned about the Interior Design profession in middle school. I continued my studies in college and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design.
