Tom did a number of jobs around my house including installing blinds; removing and installing a cabinet over a toilet in a bathroom; reparing a loose faucet in one bathroom and a loose faucet handle in another bathroom; installing towel bars and racks in both bathrooms; some caulking and grouting. He is pleasant, neat and thorough. I would definately recommend him. -Linda

Hire this guy. Very knowledgeable and his work on removing the cabinet and fixing the wall was high quality in less time than anticipated. We ended up having him fix 4 of our wooden kitchen chairs that were in terrible condition and will be bringing them back on a sunday. We will be installing new cabinets and counter tops soon. And he will be the first person we call. Thanks thumbtack.

We asked for a cabinet with roll-out trays to be built in a former dishwasher space. Kent Petersen did a beautiful job. He used reclaimed material that matched the style and color of the existing cabinets perfectly. He was professional, pleasant, and communicated well with us about when he'd arrive, what he'd do next, and what to expect. He protected the space with a tarp, and cleaned up afterward. He does excellent carpentry work, and is a reliable and trustworthy worker. He's licensed, affordable, and doesn't seem to mind working in a very cold garage. We can't recommend him highly enough.

Harry made a corner cabinet for us and matched it to the existing cabinet, he was very careful to match all the cuts, type of wood and stain, so one cannot tell the new from the old. Excellent professional mannerism.

We had granite countertops and cabinets installed. We were very happy with the results. The seam in the granite was almost invisible. They were friendly and professional. Would definitely hire them again.

Josh and his crew did an exceptional job with our kitchen remodel. Everything we needed for our kitchen, Josh was able to complete. He demo'd our existing kitchen, ran new electrical, put together and installed all of our IKEA cabinets, wired all of the under cabinet lighting, built us a custom range hood, ran new plumbing, and tiled our backsplash. He was a hardworker, kept the worksite very clean, and was patient with our ever-changing ideas and design choices. Josh was quick and efficient but paid close attention to detail. We will definitely recommend A-Team construction to friends and family members and will use again in the future for other projects.

Tim made some Cabinet doors for me and did a great job. The doors were to match my existing Cabinet doors which was difficult to achieve because finding the exact router bits were tough. The doors he made were great quality and a very close match to my existing doors but not exact. He routered the rest of my 21 doors so they matched perfectly. I appreciated the extra effort he made to ensure I was happy with my project.

Jacob was a true professional. He gave us a quote, and that was the price, even after some unexpected items occurred. They were very percise, did not take any short cuts, and handcrafted a cabinet for us that was in an awkward angled corner of the kitchen. I highly recommend Affordabe Kitchens, and have been boring everyone with my "new kitchen" photos!

I hired Allan to fabricate and install 2 sets of cabinet doors as well as replace a broken step. He was an absolute professional in every sense. He is very knowledgable, extremely thorough in his work, and hands down the best deal you will find in this area (Metro-Detroit, MI) for a builder with his experience. I already have additional jobs around my home in mind for which I will be hiring Allan. Thanks for your hard work, Allan!

We hired John to build a dry bar in our dining room and built in bookshelves in our library. He did an incredible job on both. John was accommodating, professional and on time. He was easy to work with when speccing both projects and made our visions become a perfect reality. He is one of the best contractors we've ever had the pleasure of working with. We would highly recommend him to anyone looking for custom cabinets and built ins.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

        How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
