FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My base rate is $100, but I am very fast. I prefer to have a project clearly laid out and quote a flat project rate, but I also understand some projects need development work that may be more open ended. Whatever the case, I hate springing costs on clients and will do what I can to avoid unexpected charges. I do not charge for an exploratory interview where we discuss scope and expectations. Project development I may charge for, but will let you know if I need to.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
A phone conversation or an email exchange to find out the physical parameters (size, medium, etc), design parameters (branding requirements, audience expectation) and client vision, and to see what our starting point will be in terms of content development. I then like to give a firm quote (flat rate or hourly with a not-to-exceed). Depending on the project, I deliver 1-3 drafts. Once a final is delivered, I am happy to fix any errors on my part for free, but client changes will be billed in addition.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was an art major and briefly a cartography grad student, but I learned most of what I know on the job. I've given numerous talks and have published papers on map design and theory.
