Introduction: I live and work in Minneapolis, MN, but I have primarily been teaching online for the past two years via Zoom. I have found this can be a great option for some students because they can be wherever they are comfortable and there is no need to travel. Since the pandemic hit, I've been able to work with students in six time zones. I was surprised by how similar it is to an in-person lesson as well! I believe that life is a story that each of us is telling with each day. I am drawn to the idea of working hard to help other people tell the best story possible and I believe that music is one medium through which that I can do that. I know that music has made me a better listener, communicator, thinker, feeler, and developed many other indispensable skills in me. I want to use music to help others thrive. My philosophy is to contextualize lessons to each student's goals and needs so the musical journey is as unique as the person traveling. I first picked up the cello in 2000 and became addicted to playing, adding as many instruments as I could. I have been teaching since 2010, both as a private instructor and as a music leader in a church setting. I have a B.S. in Music from the University of Northwestern-St. Paul where I majored in cello. I am excited to connect! I love getting to know students and helping them achieve their goals! I believe in holistic growth beyond just making music. I see lessons as an opportunity for both the student and myself to continue to get better musically and otherwise!

Guitar Lessons

Jared's guitar lessons are great! he hits about all the marks you would look for in a good lesson plan and takes it to the extra mile by utilizing techniques according to whatever you like (music-wise). He also personalizes the class plans according to whatever it is you are interested in. Overall a great teacher would recommend!

Guitar Lessons

I signed my son up with guitar lessons from Jared. He’s a great guy, very nice, very patient. My son is benefiting greatly from the lessons and making good progress even though he’s never played before. Jared takes it at my son’s speed and doesn’t try to just cover material. Looking forward to many more lessons to come.

Guitar Lessons

Jared is an amazing teacher who has been able to answer all of my questions and helped me work on what I needed to work on to improve as a guitarist. He's also been able to help me establish a musical foundation has helped me figure out my own goals with music and how to continue practicing and improving going forward. I've mainly been a self-taught guitarist, which means that when I started learning I had absolutely no understanding of basic music theory and how to approach guitar from a musical perspective. This meant for about seven years, I only knew how to mechanically operate a guitar without understanding how it really works. I started taking lessons with Jared to help me fill that gap in my playing, and it's really changed the way I view guitar and music in general. Due to financial constraints, I was only able to take lessons with Jared for about 5 months, but those months have definitely been worthwhile and transformative. In that time, I've grasped a better understanding of the fretboard layout, how chords are formed, how chord progressions are formed, how to utilize scales in my playing, what musical modes are and how to use them, and how to approach reading sheet music from a guitar perspective. If you are an advancing guitarist like me and feel you are lacking understanding on why the guitar works the way it does, definitely schedule a few lessons! If you are a new guitarist, I also highly recommend! Jared has a a calm and welcoming demeanor that will make you want to keep picking up the guitar and improving!

Guitar Lessons

It has been a pleasure taking lessons from Jared. I have played guitar on and off for many years and was looking for an instructor who could help correct some of my bad habits and teach me new techniques. Jared has been great at both. He is very supportive, patient and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend him!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

There are some options for lessons. Students can schedule a single lesson at a time. I also have packages of lessons and subscriptions, both of which provides for a discounted rate. Here are the price options: SINGLE LESSON: Good for students who just want one lesson. - 30 min. lesson: $30 - 45 min. lesson: $45 - 60 min. lesson: $60 PACKAGES: Good for students who want to take consistent lessons but have some flexibility with scheduling and billing. - 2, 3, or 4 Hours of Lessons: 5% discount - 6, 9, or 12 Hours of Lessons: 10% discount - 18 or 24 Hours of Lessons: 15% discount SUBSCRIPTION: Good for students who want consistent lessons and automated payments/scheduling. - Four 30 min. lessons per month: $108 ($27 for each lesson, 10% off) - Four 45 min. lessons per month: $162 ($40.50 for each lesson, 10% off) - Four 60 min. lessons per month: $216 ($54 for each lesson, 10% off) There is no registration fee. The student pays upon scheduling.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I customize the lessons to each student's goals and needs. I like to get to know a student in order to quickly discern what and how to teach. No two students will get the exact same lesson. That said, everyone will learn the fundamentals of playing (rhythm, melody, phrasing, harmony, basic theory). I pride myself on being very adaptable based on the amount and type of structure a student needs and the genre they enjoy.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

My music degree included courses in music theory and ear-training as well as string education methods. I toured and performed in small and large ensembles. I have played in bands, performed for other musicians albums, and led music departments at churches. I have worked with individuals and groups of various sizes with differing skill levels.
