Introduction: I teach jazz, blues, folk, pop and country. My specialties are jazz and improvisation. I offer in-studio music lessons in Richfield, MN and online lessons nationwide. My students are performing musicians, casual musicians, beginners, composers & songwriters. They sing, play piano, keyboard, acoustic guitar and banjo. Each of my students has a private page on my website providing them with easy access to their lesson materials. I have a unique, fun and effective way of teaching music. My teaching methods are heavily influenced by my time at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. I offer multi-lesson discounts. I took virtual piano lessons with Jim for about a year until my work schedule got in the way. Even though I had been playing for many years and studied with other teachers, Jim was able to take me to another level with his wealth of experience and vast amount of material he made available during my time with him. I highly recommend Jim to anyone looking for music education.

Jim O. is a professional musician who has a vast knowledge of music that no one else has and is not written down anywhere. He loves working with people of all ages and customizes each lesson and makes it interesting and fun as he makes music come alive. My son has always wanted to learn to compose music and is so happy to be taking lessons with Jim O.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My lesson prices are $30 for 30 minutes, $45 for 45 minutes and $60 for 60 minutes.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

The first thing I do is learn the new student's musical interests and goals. Then, based on their current ability, I design a custom program to help them achieve these goals.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a B.A. degree in Music Performance from Westmar College in Iowa and continuing music education at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. In addition I have been composing, performing and teaching music for over 40 years.
