I've been receiving Vocal Lessons from Victoria since June of 2020. I decided I was going to audition for Graduate Acting schools after being waitlisted at Juilliard and I needed to be prepared. We initially met through Preply (when they still offered Music Lessons), and I was immediately impressed by her credentials. In our first lesson, she assessed where my voice was and asked me what style of teaching I responded the best to. She was incredibly thorough and personal, two qualities that I consider to be hallmarks of her training. She makes understanding abstract concepts like "singing lower" or "having an open throat" less intimidating and easier to understand. Being a Black woman, it was also very important for me to find a Black female teacher that I could trust and relate to more easily since I already experience strong anxiety while singing/performing. I've progressed SO much in our (almost) year working together, I've even referred an acting buddy to her who was working on a musical and didn't feel confident in his voice. She helped me find songs for my audition that would fit my voice based on where I was in our sessions, she helped me figure out how I should prepare my voice right before the auditions. Victoria has helped me identify my vocal habits and has encouraged me to practice a better, healthier way of phonating. She emphasizes speech-like singing due to her in-depth understanding and experience as an Opera singer, and she is incredibly encouraging when you're struggling with grasping a concept. I'm so glad I chose her to be my vocal teacher! After buying myself a guitar for Christmas, I decided I needed Music Theory lessons and Victoria has been teaching me Music Theory once a week since February. I was VERY nervous at first, considering I'd attempted to teach myself some MT concepts previously but would begin to find certain explanations were convoluted. The same qualities she displayed in our Vocal Lessons have been present in our Music Theory lessons! Her slide presentations are easy to understand, she works out of standard Music Undergraduate material so I feel like I'm getting real world applications. I'm also much better at understanding theory than I thought I would be! I would highly recommend working with Victoria for any and all of your Music Education needs, she's an amazing teacher!

I've been working weekly with Victoria since December of 2020. I had some background in vocal performance but due to an injury, I stopped taking lessons. After several visits to the ENT, I was finally told that my vocal cords were smashing together and I had a nodule that prevented them from closing correctly. During our first lesson, Victoria heard me sing and knew exactly what was going on with my voice. She is extremely well-versed and a great teacher. Not only are the exercises personalized to work on my problem areas but she breaks them down in a way that is easy to understand and use during solo practice sessions. I've been learning to sing for 4 years and the amount of progress ive made in 6 months is astonishing. Victoria mapped out a great plan to get my singing voice healthy again and as of now, I don't feel pain when I sing!!! I'm extremely grateful to be able to learn with her and cant wait to continue building a relationship with my voice. If you're looking for a vocal teacher that provides instruction tailored to your personal needs at an affordable rate, then I couldn't recommend her more!

I’ve been working with Victoria for over a year now, and I have nothing but good things to share about my experiences. I’ve tried other voice teachers and Victoria has been the best in terms of not only teaching technique but giving the how/why behind it. She allows me to select music styles that are of interest to me and she has a good ear for knowing what songs work well with my voice. You won’t regret working with her regardless of what your musical / vocal needs may be.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

$25 Initial One Hour Consultation $45 for One Hour Lessons $25 for 30 minutes I also offer Music Theory Lessons at the same rate.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

We have a one hour initial consultation and lesson in one. We will go through vocal exercises and one song of your choice (it can even be “Happy Birthday”). This is a short vocal assessment so we can get working on your voice right away!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Master of Music in Voice Performance from the University of Minnesota. To add, I have a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Oakland University. I am actively working as a singer in the opera industry since the beginning of Masters degree. I have gone through rigorous training with some wonderful world class performers, so I have seen what makes for success in singing and what can cause a singer great trouble. This was part of my motivation for beginning to teach.
