FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Editing: I read and write every day. Painting: As a member of a number of artists' groups and watercolor societies, and an enthusiastic customer of Wet Paint (in Saint Paul) I have access to demonstrations and classes and I go to as many as I can. I am always seeking new tools and materials. My latest finds: (1) a tree-free paper called "TerraSkin" which I use to create a "hyperspace" effect in my paintings, which inspired me to create "Hummingbirds and Hippos in Hyperspace." (2) Golden Brand acrylic mediums such as Glass Bead Gel and Mica Paste, which I have used to add texture and shine to new work since June 2013.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Editing: I have always been a writer, and I have always liked editing. After years of editing my own professional writing, as well as resumes and cover letters while I served in a career services office, it seemed quite natural to reach out to people who need editing services. Painting: I have always been an "arts-and-crafts" person, and I can document nearly 40 techniques that I have worked in since I was a small child. I came to watercolor painting in 2006 after taking a Split Rock course with the excellent James Boyd Brent, who brave taught what should only be called "Watercolor for the Terrified" because there were 16 of us in the class and only one had ever picked up a watercolor brush. I picked up the brush and have never looked back.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I create original abstract watercolor paintings, original watercolors of whimsical creatures, digital images from tiny watercolors, occasional figurative and more or less realistic paintings on commission, and note cards and other products from those images.
