Introduction: Peggy Thomsen, MSW, LICSW, is a child therapist serving families in the Twin Cities. Her expertise are adoption issues, attachment, building healthy family relationships, anxiety, and depression. People, young and old, do best when they are connected to others in close healthy relationships. Clients appreciate her knowledge of normal child development and suggestions for strategies that often result in rapid positive movement. Play therapy is used to help children express difficult emotions. Adults with a history of childhood trauma or stress find understanding and healing. Some clients use guided imagery and relaxation to address effects of trauma. Medical insurance and private pay accepted.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask some questions: What training has the therapist received specific to attachment, trauma, early childhood development, adoption, foster care, and family therapy? Is the therapist skilled in treating a variety of problems with a variety of techniques? For example, comfortable in facilitating attachment building, working on behavior management strategies, working with ADHD and/or learning disabilities, helping with grief work, PTSD, Bi-Polar disorder, treating sexual abuse issues and helping with adoption related issues? What attention is given to helping parents heal their own emotional issues?
