Needed new soffit board to replace rotting boards above bay window, that also contained a wasp nest or two. He also cleaned rain gutters. Things he did that were great: 1) showed up for initial meeting and to give estimate ON TIME! 2) performed beautiful work over bay window with new soffit boards complete with paint job; and removed wasps nest, 3) reasonably priced for this single-income household, 4) felt totally comfortable with him and appreciated his gracious attitude towards me as a female client. Was not condescending (which is my experience with a few contractors in the past). Will definitely ask him to return to help with more "fixer-upper" jobs as well as some more complex renovations.

The job was for 4 pieces of work. Some roofing, step railing and installation of an Egress window. It was difficult for me to find a contractor doing multiple pieces of work, and also one that would take on such a small project and deal with the particulars of my lender and third party agency. Scott was very nice and understood my delimma having worked with other agencies that require stipulations. Scott stayed in contact with me throughout my process even when the process seemed to be a little rigid and at times quite cumbersome. He could have turned down the job, but he didn't. He wanted to help me close on my home and so he stayed and for that I am grateful! When Scott and his crew came to do the work, they were very fast and efficient. I am in my new home and loving it. Thanks Scott & crew for everything!

Hired originally to design and install a barn door in a hallway but his work was so reasonably priced and his craftsmanship was excellent that we also had him build a mantel. Along with that he mounted our 65 inch tv on tile. I will keep his number handy for additional projects in the future.

They installed an egress window for us and did well with communicating meetings with times that worked for us. Window was excellent quality and love the light it allows in! Just be sure you have tarp down for dirt or know where you want it or if you want it hauled away! We didn't know to plan for that much dirt! :)

My experience with New Windows for America was great! Nice and east with no problems. From the first meeting we had until the last phone call everything was taken care. They arrived on time and completed the project in a very timely manner. I had thought it was going to take longer than it did but they were very efficient. I had originally been told my windows would be ready for install in May however I got a call maybe 3 weeks after my final meeting that they were ready for install. My new windows look AMAZING on the inside and the outside. We completed 5 of 10 windows that needed to be replaced to split up the cost and could not be happier. Excited to get the final ones done.

Kellington Remodeling installed a new entrance door for me. Chuck came to my home and looked at my existing door and gave me a very fair price for the installation of a new door. Communcation throughout the process made me confident I would be happy with the finished product. Two people showed up to install the door. They were very professional and friendly. The work was completed quicker than expected and looks great. There were a couple aesthetic items that I think could have been done a little better but overall I think they did a great job. They cleaned everything well and you couldn't even tell they were there (except for the new door!). Lastly, a couple of days after the work was complete Chuck e-mailed me to make sure I was happy with everything. They did a great job for a fair price. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others.

Our window AC stopped working on a Friday of a steamy hot weekend. I submitted my job "after hours" on Friday and John replied quickly and came out Saturday morning to install our new unit. We are very pleased with the weekend service and with the actual work done. John was very friendly and easy to work with. I expect we'll be contracting him again.

The project was a siding replacement for house and garage. Half of the house is two floors. In total there was about 2400 square feet of floor. We used heavy duty vinyl siding. There were a lot of lights, doors, windows, corners, etc to work around. The crew did excellent work meeting these challanges. Additionally, we went with full metal cladding for all window & door trim as well as fascia, and veranda support structure. The metal cladding was formed on site and perfectly fit everything it was applied to. The crew was here at 7:00 am ready to start and worked till after 6:30 pm. Mr. Lessard was here most of the time when he wasn't retrieving additional materials that were needed as the work progressed. The result was a project that went smoothly from start to finish. It is now a year later and there have been no problems due to winter weather or spring storms. We are totally happy with the results and have no regrets for choosing to go with Tier1 Restoration.

Damian put in a new door for us (and the trim around it both inside and out) expertly, quickly and neatly. His work was so excellent that we had him come and install a new window for us, too, and some quarter round on a hallway floor. Not everyone can manage in these old houses where things might not be square or as you expect them to be but Damian can. We recommend him highly and will ask him to come back for other jobs as we need the help.

Advanced Exteriors in-depth experience with working with Insurance Companies is a valuable asset. I have multiple clients who have been approached by storm chasers swearing there is significant roof damage and attempting to get them to submit a false claim. Advance Exteriors has always provided, fair and honest estimates regardless of whether or not the get the business. I would highly recommend you use them for any of your Exterior Needs!

Garrett and company installed a basement egress window for me. Garrett was very responsive and worked with my schedule to get the job done quickly. It looks good from the outside and seems solidly installed. I was surprised that the interior portion around the window and the sill was left unfinished, but we never discussed it beforehand and given the very reasonable price he did the work for... it makes sense that it might not be a 'full finish' job. I'd definitely use them again if I need any more work that falls within their expertise.

Winter was coming around the corner and the windows were easily having cold drafts coming through the old windows. We were referred by a friend to call JL Albrecht Construction and Josh came through right away to take measurements of our windows. We got the supplies and everything was all done within the week. Josh was very thorough with explaining on the right kind of windows to get that would fit better with our windows. He showed up right on time and replaced them with the new windows in a timely matter. Now it's saved us a ton of money on heat and we're staying warm for the winters. I really recommend these guys! Thanks, JL Albrecht Construction!

Chris Rygg was great! Gave a great bid price, showed up on time, very knowledgeable, experienced, professional, efficient, courteous and cleaned up when the job was done. Most of my other bids were unreasonably high (10x as much or more) and I could tell that they could do the job, but that they weren't very experienced in the installation. Chris installed a 10' bay window, a front entry door with sidelight and a side entry door. It took just over 3 hours, they were amazing! He even gave me tips for how to add the finishing touches to my project. I will definitely be calling Chris back to work on my bathroom remodel and a few other projects! Best contractor I have ever hired!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

      • Trim repair:
        • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
        • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
      • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
      • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
        • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
        • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
          • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
