We had our deck redone and a leaky drain line replaced in the kitchen. Both projects were done very well and quickly. The worker(s) also cleaned up everything nicely when the work was done and the price was very fair. Would highly recommend for any project!

I put in porcelain 12 x 24. I had all the old floors removed instead of laying over the top. I am one of those people I expect a job to be done correct and have no issues saying something until it's correct or going back on the owner. I had the kitchen, entry way, 3 bathrooms and laundry room changed to porcelain, then once that was complete, it was such a great job and looked so nice, I decided to go ahead and turn the living room into porcelain, put down an area rug and put porcelain at the top of the stairs. I am extremely pleased. H.P. Hip Remodeling very reliable, professional and very good at their craft. Very competitive pricing compared to all the other contractors who wanted to do the work and will definitely use again. Very pleasant to work with and they didn't try to gouge in anyway. Judge yourself from the pictures.

I am delighted to provide this recommendation for Candice Wideman and Youtopia Designs. I hired Candice to help me completely remodel and redecorate the first and second floors of my house, and she exceeded my expectations in every way. I needed someone who could not only figure out how to create more modern, comfortable, user-friendly living areas within the space available but also provide attractive decor recommendations that could withstand use and abuse by my five cats. Candice expertly filled this role and helped turn my cramped, dated townhouse into a beautiful, functional, easy-to-clean sanctuary. Throughout both projects (first floor in 2014 and second floor in 2016), I found Candice to be a great listener and an enthusiastic advocate for my vision. She provided recommendations that fit within my budget and communicated her concerns regarding some of my less-workable ideas with a balance of diplomacy and frankness that I appreciated. I also loved the fact that she incorporate cat-friendly elements into the design. She provided a perfect cat-feeding station with a built-in bowl platform (to keep dishes off the floor and out of walkways) in the kitchen. On the second floor, she designed hinged window seats with cat hidey-holes beneath them. She consistently provided updates via email, text, and phone and saw to it that contractor-interaction was as unintrusive upon my schedule as possible. Candice’s passion for her work is evident in all that she does. She’s confident, cheerful, and a true joy to work with. The kitchen, living space, bathrooms, and bedrooms she designed for me are exactly what I wanted. I recommend her to every person I know, whether they’re in need of home design assistance or not, and I will absolutely be contacting her when I’m ready to tackle the basement.

They installed our hardwood floors in the kitchen, living and dining room. They did a great job so we asked them to paint our house as well. They did an excellent job on both. We will be working with them with the rest of the projects in our house.

Rollie said that he would meet at my house between 3:30 and 4pm to complete the estimate to re-tile my shower. He was there at 3:45. Gave the estimate and even went with me to Home Depot to help with selecting the correct material to satisfy my vision. He completed the shower tile work and I am more than satisfied. I will definitely call him on future jobs. He also, seemed to be cost conscious ensure we got the best product at the best price.

Phil is a an extremely personable, knowledge person. He explained what he would do, how it would be done, and suggested things to accent our kitchen that we hadn't thought of. He even met with us at one of the design places he recommended to go for the designing with us . We are looking forward to watching our kitchen be transformed into what we want under his direction.

I had a remodeling project to completely refinish my kitchen, 2 bathrooms and basement. B&C Contracting was 1 of 5 quotes that I received. They were extremely professional being that they didn't just simply give me a random estimate but they came and looked at everything I was interested in remodeling. Overall, they responded with an estimate the same day and I decided to hire them. They were able to take out what was there prior, take out a few walls, add new lighting areas in my ceiling, put in cabinets, countertops and appliances, put up drywall, re pour concrete, put in my flooring, paint and do general carpentry. They also installed a few new windows and doors. The job was finished in a couple weeks and the update looks perfect. We will eventually add an additional garage and rehire B&C Contracting Specialist to do this project as well.

I just had my new kitchen cabinets installed by Ed. His bid was reasonable. He did not come up with any additional or hidden cost if I requested some additional items. He does explain how what and why things will be done before he does it so you can make up your mind before hand. He always cleaned up as he went rather than wait until the end of the day. He was able to do the job in a very timely manner that did not cause me any inconvenience. Thanks Ed, I will use you again on other projects soon.

Despite our efforts to find a new home that was, "move in ready" the competitive home market and limited number of properties, lead us to consider buying a fixer upper and then hiring a contractor to make it "move in ready." I am an extremely anxious person and buying a new home is a very stressful situation on its own. Finding a contractor on top of everything else, was something that we had a lot of concerns about. From the start, Trinity Contracting (Tad), was very accommodating and provided us with a free estimate. During our first meeting it was apparent that he understood what we were trying to do and already had made some great recommendations. Once we decided to work with Trinity, things moved quickly and demo seemed to fly by. The scope of work was pretty large with 2 full bathroom demos, 1 main wall demo, 2 half wall demos, and complete demo of all the flooring except the bedrooms. Tad provided an aggressive timeline of 6-8 weeks for project completion and many others told me to expect double the time a contractor states. Not the case with Tad, work was almost completely done by week 8 with the exception of some minor finishing touches and we were able to move into the home on schedule. Tad was very involved during the process and took us shopping to pick out tile, wood flooring, bathroom fixture, etc. He was able to help us tremendously with pricing and also did a great job of mediating between my wife and I when we were split on a decision. Tad was also helpful about keeping our budget in mind and made sure that we did not go over on anything unless we wanted to. If there was a decision to be made which would cost more, Tad was there to discuss what things could wait and which would make more sense to do now. Tad and his wife, Shell, were very flexible at every step in the process and went out of their way to make things as easy as possible when we needed to meet. The project come out beautifully and Tad really stepped up in the end to make sure we had everything that was agreed upon despite a error made by a supplier. This really made me confident in Trinity, Tad, and his wife Shell as business and I look forward to working with them if we are lucky enough to finish our kitchen and/or basement in the future. I have already referred a couple of others to Trinity who were looking for contractors and would continue to do so if asked for a reference.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

      • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
      • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
      • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
      • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

      • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
      • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
      • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
      • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.
