Steve came out and replaced my water heater even when it required some extra work. He even came out on a Sunday and stayed till it was done. Was happy with his work and his pricing. Felt comfortable having him work in my home with me and my small child. Would hire again for other handyman jobs!

Kelly is the guy you are looking for when it comes to any of the handyman services. He and team will go above and beyond for all the fixes - electric/woodwork/concrete/drywall/Carpentry/mold/haul away stuff - just about everything. His prices are reasonable and they do help pick up stuff from home depot/lowes which is a big plus. They would also shop on your behalf as sometimes we dont have the correct understanding on what materials to buy. Highly Recommend.

The handyman was a little late arriving, but he did a good job and even did another small job because the main project was finished in a timely manner.

Milt painted 5 rooms and is fixing some paneling. He is bar none the cleanest, most precise, and overal best painter I've ever hired, and I painted houses for 15 years. I highly recommend him. Fairly priced and fast. Honest and is a gentleman. I felt safe with he and his nephew in my home.

Ron and his crew painted the interior of my rental. When I went to look at the work, it was disappointing to see all the holes that weren't filled in before paint was applied. He did go back and do some handyman work and also touched up the paint job. I would hire him again.

I ordered a bed frame online. Upon it's arrival, my husband decided to back out on putting it together :(. Our handyman was prompt on arrival. My bed looks wonderful. And it was a quick build with great results.

Sam Cardenas responded to our call promptly and arrived when he said he would and moved a large refrigerator over newly repaired and stained hardwood floors so that we would not damage the floor. He also cleaned the compressor and wires inside the refrigerator and hooked up the water line. Then he tested a socket for us in a chandelier and then helped replace a guard on our outside gutter. He asked if we had anything else we needed done while he was here. Truly a “handyman” to keep in your cell phone for all those jobs that you can’t or don’t know how to do. We will not hesitate to call him in the future.

Eric tried to install a couple of flood guards in our basement but due to the age of our plumbing and house, it couldn’t be done. But he was up front and honest and explained the problem to me and then didn’t charge since the work couldn’t be done. I wouldn’t hesitate to contact him again for any other handyman need, as he is straight forward and knows what he is doing.

The fan in my bedroom was wobbling and making noise. I called Aaron on Wednesday and he came the next day. He knew exactly what the problem was when he took I look at my ceiling fan. He fixed my ceiling in less than 20 minutes. Now my ceiling fan is running like new and I can sleep again at night without my ceiling fan making noises. I would recommend him to anyone who needs a handyman and I will be using him again. Thanks Aaron

Shane did an excellent job from start to finish! Reliable, friendly, and honest as they come! He installed our new windows and was very knowledgeable so he was able to explain all the differences between the types of windows to help us make an informed decision! His prices were SO much better than 2 other quotes...very happy we were referred to use him! Our friends used him before and also highly recommended him to us. He also did a few handyman repairs in our basement and will be coming back in a couple months to remodel the basement! He even gave some ideas on design plans already...very helpful! Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We looked around at a lot of different places trying to find some pieces for our kitchen that were decorative and useful. We eventually realized that we would have to have somebody make something specifically for us if we were going to find the look we were going for. After searching for a custom shop to make these for us, Thoburn Woodworking was the easiest to deal with and gave us the best price. We were really happy with how these turned out. Adam, the owner, was easy to work with and really took time to figure out exactly what we wanted.

I have used L.J. Fanning for over 10 years. He has done almost all of the repairs on my home and my rental property. His work is exceptional and he is 100% trustworthy. He is a perfectionist who is highly talented in any and all repairs/improvements. There has not been one project he has been unable to take on and complete with total satisfaction. He is such an excellent "handyman"/repairman that I would be lost without him. I have referred him to Numerous friends and they have all "fallen in love" with him. From tiling, to concrete work, to electrical and plumbing.....L.J. can do it all! Whatever your remodeling/repair need, he is your man! Unlike many "handymen", L.J. is always on time and completes the job when he tells you it will be done. You will Never go wrong by using his services.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good handyman?

Finding a good handyman can change your life. Within days, the endless list of insurmountable tasks that were either out of your skill range or impossible to fit into your busy schedule can be completed. If you know you want help but aren’t sure how to hire the right pro, ask these questions to find the right fit:

    • What is your work experience? If you are putting in a tile backsplash, you want someone experienced with the task, not someone who generally does painting and junk removal.
    • How much do you charge? Handymen often charge hourly rates that vary based on the complexity of the task they’re hired to do, as well as flat rates for standard jobs. Be clear about what they’ll charge before you hire them.
      • On that note, discuss payment details. It’s wise not to pay all the money up front, especially for larger projects. You may be able to pay a deposit for materials and pay the remainder upon project completion.
    • How long will the job take you to complete? If the handyman is as busy as you are and a fence repair is going to take months, you should probably find another qualified handyman for the job.

Read client reviews and follow up with references to make sure you’re choosing the right handyman for your projects. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

    What does a handyman do?

A handyman is a skilled laborer who provides basic home repairs. Anyone can call themselves a handyman, although most who do so are skilled with repairs and home projects. Reading reviews is a good way to determine their fitness for your job. The tasks a handyman can perform include assembling furniture, painting interiors and exteriors, repairing fences, repairing broken doors or replacing trim, hanging lights, hooking up appliances, and much more. Handymen may have flat fees for certain services, or charge an hourly rate. Handyman rates are often lower than those of a contractor, as they don’t have the same specialization. Some states have no limit on the work a handyman can perform, while others do. For example, California’s Building and Professions Code section 7048 (small operations) permits handymen to provide work similar to that of a contractor (floor installation, painting, etc.) provided the total cost of labor and materials does not exceed $500. A handyman is a great resource for minor home repairs at a lower cost than a licensed contractor, but for more complex projects, it pays to hire a specialized contractor. Fore more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does a handyman charge?

The national average rate for handyman jobs is $90-$160. A handyman performs general maintenance and repairs for residential and commercial properties. A handyman may charge a flat fee for standard services that take a predictable amount of time, such as installing a new appliance, as well as an hourly rate for larger projects such as digging out and replacing a rotted fence post. A cost-saving strategy when hiring a handyman is to bundle all the tasks you want them to do into one visit to make the most of any minimum service fee. Hourly rates for a handyman can average $50-$100 per hour. Pricing will depend on skill and experience required for the job, as well as regional labor rates. Here are a few examples of average handyman flat rates.

    • Attic ladder replacement: $150.
    • Toilet replacement: $75.
    • Ceiling fan and light fixtures: $75.
    • Faucet replacement: $125.
    • Garbage disposal: $75.

    Can a handyman do plumbing?

In some states, a handyman can provide plumbing services, but it may be in your best interest to call a plumber, particularly for issues more major than unclogging a drain or attaching a new sink. Hiring a plumber is important because mishandling your water and gas lines has the potential to do great damage to your home, your family’s health, or even the safety of your neighborhood. A handyman is not legally required to have any training or licensing in plumbing matters, while a licensed plumber has undergone years of education and on-the-job training. In some cases, homeowners insurance won’t cover damage caused by plumbing repair done by an unlicensed handyman.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, most plumbers learn their trade through a four- or five-year apprenticeship with 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training. They also receive classroom education including “safety, local plumbing codes and regulations, and blueprint reading. They also study mathematics, applied physics, and chemistry. After completing an apprenticeship program, plumbers … are considered to be journey workers, qualifying them to perform duties on their own,” according to the DOL. Licensed plumbers should do continuing education to keep abreast of safety and technology changes. Poor plumbing can lead to sewage backups, a flooded home or even natural gas leaks, so it’s best to leave it in the hands of a specialized professional.
