- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My main concerns are the quality of work and making sure that I or anyone else won't be coming back to fix something that wasn't fixed correctly. I generally charge around $45 an hour but if a job is taking a little longer than expected I generally reduce my hourly rate or charge by the job.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The most important task to accomplish in the beginning is to communicate what it is the customer wants exactly and or what they are trying to accomplish. To give a proper estimate of cost and time the full aspect of the work has to be accounted for. Jobs that go over allotted finances and time create many problems that the customer, future customers, and I will all suffer from. I enjoy what I do and I love making customers happy. So that will take care of most problems before they become problems.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Growing up there were 8 of us kids and my parents were always redecorating, remodeling, or fixing something. I learned a lot from my dad and I have a lot of family in the trades. My father and brother in law were always picking up side jobs and I was always there watching and learning. I was on my first roof at 10. I put 15 years in at the railroad as a crane operator and a couple years bartending but I decided to be closer to and see my family more. I needed the flexibility of self employment and I really enjoy building, repairing, and helping people.
