- How did you get started doing this type of work?
While at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), I utilized my organizational abilities to manage the tri-divisional offices of Admissions, Records, and Registration.... I enjoyed the office enviroment, but (being in management) missed the aspects of direct customer service. Previously, I had finished in second place (alas) during State Competition for salesmanship, while representing my prep-school..... To satisfy my need for rotation, change, and daily goals, I augmented my distant role as manager, with part-time sales at Saks Fifth Avenue, on the Country Club Plaza.... My part-time income, and subsequent commissions began to dwarf my full-time academic salary. Consequently, when a full-time managerial position, with open floor sales options, was offered to me by Saks, I did not hesitate in accepting the new job. After being a solid Plaza fixture for years, the corporate office in New York, opted to move the Midwestern Saks to Chicago---leaving only outlet stores in resort areas.... I was not bereft of ideas, or income.... With a sales/management background, in addition to a working relationship with Plaza Security, which led to a working relationship with the County Coroner's office, and the Kansas City Police Department, Death To Dirt Professional Domestic Services had already been established as my business (1987), and was specializing in cleaning crime/suicide scenes.... Domestic service in private households was often requested, and a natural expansion. It is the greatest good fortune to work in a field of such activity, and interest...! I absolutely love Death To Dirt Professional Domestic Services, and all of my wonderful past and present clients...!
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I am currently working with a Thumbtack client in organizing the household's garage, basement, kitchen, and closets. It is a delicate task, requiring sensitivity to the client's nerves, concerning the allowance of "a stranger" into their home. Their strong attachment to the possessions, and resistance to change must be handled with care and respect. We are building a solid working relationship, and making great strides in re-establishing a healthy and enjoyable home.
