Introduction: The Music Program at McIntire Studios is designed for all those who wish to make music a part of their life. Singers and composers are evaluated for admission on a one-on-one basis. We accept beginners and professionals, adults, transfer students, and children as young as four. This program is paced to suit the needs of the individual student, with daily practice leading to lasting accomplishment. Studio recitals are given three times a year, with occasional supplementary solo recitals and group classes. We strongly believe that music is essential to the development of the whole person; therefore, lessons should be demanding and stretch the student, yet be light-hearted with a sense of fun. We motivate students of all ages and ability levels with humor and positive reinforcement. Michelle McIntire is dedicated to the musical success of her students. She loves working with students from a variety of backgrounds and ability levels, and most of all loves seeing them grow together. Her approach to teaching places great emphasis on student achievement and mastery. She has been teaching privately since 1989, and holds professional teaching certificates in K-12 music education in both Florida and Missouri. Michelle is a conductor, a director, a singer, a pianist and (most of all!) a teacher. This Florida native has performed widely throughout her native state and upstate New York in concert and stage venues, and is actively pursuing a career in music. As well as singing traditional classical recitals and performances, she has also been very active in musical theatre. Michelle has formerly served as the Director of Music at St. Teresa's Academy in Kansas City, MO and the Artistic Director of Crescendo: The Tampa Bay Women’s Chorus, located in Tampa, Florida. Education Michelle holds a Master of Music in Voice Performance from Ithaca College, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Missouri - Kansas City, and a Bachelor of Music in Voice from Florida Southern College. In addition to serving as president of the Kansas City chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, her current memberships include: Music Educators National Conference and Missouri Music Educators Association. Private Studio Michelle has been teaching voice and piano since 1989. In that time, she has worked with college and high school aged students, beginning adults, young children and retirees, gifted and special needs students, raw beginners and experienced professionals. Michelle feels that her love of people helps her to connect with her students on a very special level, which allows both to grow, no matter what the starting point! For school aged students, she strongly encourages parental involvement. Michelle has a strong track record of past student success. Classroom Teaching Michelle began teaching in the public schools in 1996. She has taught mainly vocal music on the secondary level, but has also taught K-12 general music and beginning band and orchestra. In addition, Michelle spent an informative year teaching 3rd grade, as well as a rewarding two-year period working with the at-risk population in central Florida. Her Kansas City school teaching experience includes a year a the French immersion school Academie Lafayette teaching K-1st general music and three years spent at St. Teresa's Academy, where she led three choirs, the orchestra and the praise band as well as a piano studio. Church Music Michelle has been a professional and volunteer church musician since she was first allowed to sing in the choir! She has been professionally involved in church music since her first job as a choir director in 1993. Since then, Michelle has worked mainly in the Methodist and Presbyterian churches -- although not constrained by denomination. She has also conducted, subbed, and soloed for the AME Zion, Unitarian, Lutheran, Baptist, Catholic, Episcopalian, and Presbyterian churches. Most recently, she was the Director of Vocal Music at Ward Parkway Presbyterian Church. Musical Theatre Since moving to Kansas City in 2003, Michelle has been involved with musical theatre productions on the community and high school arenas. I have worked with Michelle both as a parent and as a student myself. She was my daughter's piano teacher from the age of 6 to 11. During that time she took my daughter from a beginner to playing difficult classical pieces and college level music theory. This foundation supported her all through her musical career and she now plays 7 instruments and writes music (she is 19 now). I came to Michelle wanting to realise my lifelong dream of singing. She both encouraged me when I was insecure and pushed me past my self-imposed blocks. Ive worked with many other teachers over the years and not one of them gave my the technique or the confidence that Michelle did. Additionally, she incorporates group work shops & recitals that are not just for showing off. She uses these as tools for learning by observing our peers, and confidence builders in the safest space inaginable.

Michelle came highly recommended to us by a friend who is an accomplished theater organist. Two of my daughters took lessons from Michelle and she is AMAZING. Not only does she know her stuff, she developed a great relationship with both of my girls. She treats the children with respect and really gets to know what makes them tick, which makes the girls really 'get into' the lessons. She is demanding, but fair. She makes her expectations very clear to the students and holds them accountable. She is very accommodating and easy to work with on the parent side. A great experience for my girls - musically and character development-wise. Highly Recommended!!

Our daughter has been taking voice lessons from Michelle for two and a half years and has made great progress. Since she started with Michelle, she has earned a spot in a metro-wide honor choir and has landed roles in the school musical.

I'm a stage actor and in the summer of 2016,when I was home from my graduate acting program, I was looking for a voice teacher to study with so I could brush up on my musical theatre skills. I met with Michelle on the recommendation of a dear friend of mine without knowing very much about her. I did not know at that point that I was in for one of the most transformative experiences of growth in the way I approach my voice I've had in my life. I had come off of a year of voice classes that specialized in vocal work for the stage, but not singing. I was itching to apply what I had been learning to my musicianship (I'd done professional musical theatre work prior to grad school and have been playing trumpet and singing nonprofessionally for many years.) The most remarkable thing about her instruction was that she used her great gifts as a teacher and musician to meet me where I was. She was able to quickly assess what I already knew and give me work that would challenge me. Moreover, because she is a regularly performing artist herself, she was incredibly engaged in not merely the technical work of vocal production, but what I wanted to say with music as an individual artist. Having learned from many instructors over the years, I can say that that level of respect, skill and generosity is very uncommon. If I'm ever back in the KC Metro area for any length of time, you can bet I will be contacting her for more help.
